Layout for System
Load Cell HX711 Motor with Encoder attached Speed Controller Battery Microcontroller
Calibration
- Encoder value must be set to 0 when fully
closed
- When device is on, the motor will start to
close
- When clamps are closed current will spike
○ Use Vx-Vy/57 to calculate current ○ Nodes must be after load since arduino can only handle 3.3v
- If the current > 3A then the encoder value
is set to zero
○ Buffer in place so it will calibrate only once (code)
Block Diagram
➔ Proportional, Integral, Derivative (PID) Speed Controller using PID Library in Arduino
➔
Position Controller consists of 3 zones for limiting the motor’s speed depending on the motor’s current distance from the target position.
Results
This is the motor’s position [rad] vs. the number of samples with a sample time of 10ms. The target position is 30 radians.
Results Cont.
This is a graph of the motor’s speed [rad/s] vs. the number of samples with a sample time of 10ms.
Data Retrieval & Transfer
Above is a simple diagram showing how the load cells would be set up with the load cell amplifier which are then connected to to the Arduino.

Example of what user will see and verify before starting device to ensure data transfer is correct.
Example of what the table with the data in excel will show and how it is organized.
Constraints
➔ Two majors; one team ➔ Compatible parts ◆ Motor, battery, load cell ➔ Footprint (Electronics) ➔ User-friendly ➔ UConn closing means no access to labs/resources
◆ Must have multiple working prototypes for each group member to work on
- utside of lab
