Our Discovery Narrative Discovery Charter School is a 21st century STEAM school that provides an English/Spanish Dual Immersion program to promote bilingualism, biliteracy, multiculturalism, academic achievement, cultural competencies, and 21st century skills for career and college readiness. 6

  7. California Spanish Assessment (CSA) The optional CSA will: - Measure a students competency in Spanish reading/language arts and provide student level data. - Evaluate the implementation of Spanish reading/language arts programs at the local level. 7

Next Steps for Discovery’s Dual Immersion • Beginning of year survey - Elicit students/families linguistic and cultural experiences • SAME World Map utilized in ALL DI classrooms • Flags of Spanish speaking countries posted all year long = 7 countries total • Incorporate Flag salute in Spanish outside of the classroom • Year long study of Spanish speaking countries/leaders 19

Changes Happening Now • DI Cultural Fair changed to MULTICULTURAL FAIR May 3rd 5:30-7:00 p.m. • Opportunities for families to host a booth showcasing their heritage Planning meeting- March 19th at 5:30 p.m. • Development of a t-shirt showcasing languages spoken by Discovery Families. • PBL Spanish After School Club 2019-2020 Oral Language Development 20
