  2. What is Dual Credit? Dual Credit is a way for high school students to earn college credit while also fulfilling their needs for high school graduation.

  3. Why take Dual Credit? • Savings on college tuition • Preparation for the college experience • Early start on college requirements • Great way to check off high school graduation requirements.

  4. Cost • In-District Student: • One Temple College Course is $207 per semester. • Student pays $30 per class = $60 a semester = $120 for the year • Paid to HHS Bookkeeper only! • HHS Pays $177 per class = $354 a semester = $708 for the year • Transfer student: • $324 per class – per semester • Staff transfer student: • $90 per class – per semester Purchasing Textbooks and any other fees are the responsibility of the student.

  8. What are the BIG differences in a Dual Credit class? • Instructors are more firm about assignment deadlines and make up work. • Attendance is REALLY important. Temple College policy is that an instructor may drop a student for attendance after 2 absences. • UIL- Temple College recognizes absences due to UIL the same as we recognize our own student athletes, however the student must check with the instructor about the length of advanced notice required (see course syllabus).

  11. Temple Grades • D2L website…all grades, assignments • High School grades – Midterm grades and end of the Fall semester and end Spring semester. • Grade must be a 70 or above for High School credit.

Dual Credit Program Removal • Students must pass Temple College class with a 70 or above for High School credit and to stay in the program. • If a student is unsuccessful in Dual Credit, they will be removed from the entire Dual Credit program for the current semester and all subsequent semesters. • If a student drops or fails a class they must pay FULL tuition to the Bookkeeper. • One Temple College Course is $207 per semester. • If a student fails/drops the Student pays $177 per class = $354 a semester

  13. Fridays Students do not Have Temple College classes on Friday. A study period will be offered to you at the high school. All HHS rules apply during your study period. Please take advantage of this time.

  14. The TSI Assessment • The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-required assessment test to determine college-readiness in reading, writing, and math. All first-time college students must take the TSI test before enrolling. • Updated policy for the class of 2021 and forward – Students must pass ALL three sections of the TSI to be eligible for Dual Credit and REACH.

  15. TSI Pre-Assessment • Student MUST complete pre-assessment before taking TSI. www.tsipreview.com/welcome/templecollege • Students must present proof of pre-assessment on the day they plan to test. • Students will not be admitted to the test without the pre-assessment completed.

  16. The TSI Assessment • The TSI Exam is offered at Hutto High School throughout the month of February: • February 2 8:00 am • February 9 8:00 am • February 16 8:00 am • February 23 8:00 am • March 2 8:00 am • Students sign up through Naviance. • The first exam is free. All subsequent attempts are $10.

  17. Bacterial Meningitis • Effective Jan. 1, 2014, state law (Senate Bill 62) requires that students who will be under age 22 on their first day of class at a public, private or independent institution of higher education in Texas provide proof of immunization for bacterial meningitis. • The vaccination or booster dose must have been received during the five years prior to enrollment and at least ten days before the start of classes. • Proof of vaccination or waiver is due by March 8 th • Link for waiver - https://corequestjc.dshs.texas.gov
