Goals To examine: awareness of functional illiteracy in the selected countries; understanding low literacy+ low literates specific formats of education for adult educators regarding literacy and basic skills partners’ core needs existing strategies for motivating low literates; types of educational processes applied; methods used in this type of education;
Research questions status of adult education functional illiteracy + characteristics of low educated and low skilled adults? motivating for education designing/organizing the learning process? methods
Recommendations The handbook could contain the following chapters Definition of literacy and functional literacy and illiteracy Characteristics of functional illiterates Social and individual, political sources of functional illiteracy Understanding dyslexia as a trigger of functional illiteracy Animating individuals and their communities for enrolling in education Triggering motivation for learning before, during and after the course Organising the learning process Learning how to learn sessions Methods of choice how, when and why to use them
