SSICA – SCAN STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD AUTHORIZATION

Program that allows staff members to scan ID cards and provide consequences and/or rewards to students. SSICA will change your school culture after a few months.

¢ SSICA was created by Dr. Pete Chavez who has served as a

teacher at Clovis East High School, Assistant Principal at

• Mt. Whitney High School, Principal at North Monterey

County Middle School and a professor for University of Phoenix for over 8 years.

WHAT IS SSICA?

¢ SSICA is an app available on IOS (Apple), Windows and

Android platform and it’s free to download. No additional equipment needed. You can also use https://proscanner.org on your browser (e.g. Laptop, Chromebook, etc.)

¢ SSICA can read 18 different types of barcodes using the

camera on your smartphone or tablet. Nothing else needed!

¢ Once an ID card is scanned, SSICA can automatically: — Assign lunch detention, Saturday

School, etc.

— Send an email home — Send a text to parent or guardian in less than 3 seconds — Keeps records of each scan (Provide a list of students missing) — Automatically send an Excel spreadsheet of all scans for the

day **Most photography companies are willing to add barcodes to your ID cards at no extra charge for next school year.

his/her credentials to log in to the app. (Security feature)

¢ Each school can create their own Buttons

(Flex Periods), Leaving Campus Early, Entered Lunch Detention, Kudos (positive behavior), etc.

¢ Each school will have their approved Buttons and

can scan unlimited number of students ID cards.

WHAT IS SSICA (CONTINUED)?

¢ SSICA works with Internet and without Internet ¢ Dr. Chavez recommends you use Internet for real

time access to Student Rosters.

¢ SSICA uses about 50 megabytes of data per

month if the user uses 4 hours a day, in other words, uses very little data.

¢ Works over Wi-Fi if unblocked by the district. ¢ SSICA app can also catch duplicate scans. Let’s

say a senior sells his ID card to a freshman and the senior purchases another ID card. If both students leave campus, SSICA will catch it!

function called “Look Up” that allows you to search for the student either by First Name, Last Name, or ID Number.

¢ When you scan the ID card or manually enter the

student’s information to the SSICA app, 5 color

¢ The student’s name, last name, ID number, and

grade level come up. You also have 4 areas of notes that will come up on the screen. For example, Tulare USD includes in the Note section the parent’s name and phone number comes up. If the student has restrictions or has an Individualized Student Safety Plan or other restrictions these can also be included in this area.

HOW DOES THE SSICA APP KNOW WHAT

COLOR EACH STUDENT WILL COME UP?

¢ Each school will have an administrator that will

Principal, AP, Bully Manager or Dean of

• Students. The AP secretary can also assist with

updating the information in SSICA.org. It will usually take a secretary about 15 to 30 minutes daily to update SSICA.org. The people I recommend to have access admin credentials would be:
