Make sure you guard your personal information:
- Do NOT carry your social security card in your
wallet.
- Shred financial documents and paperwork
- Do NOT use obvious passwords – birth date,
mother’s maiden name, last four of social security

- Don’t give out personal information on the
phone, through the mail or over the internet unless you know who you are dealing with.
- Keep your personal information in a secure
place.
- Do NOT click on links sent in unsolicited
emails.

Be alert to signs that require immediate attention:
- Bills that do not arrive as expected
- Unexpected credit cards/account statements
- Denials of credit for no reason
- Call or letters about purchases you didn’t
make
- Charges on your financial statements that
you don’t recognize.

Check your credit report at least once a year to
monitor activity on your accounts.

that do not belong to you with the correct credit reporting companies

Report if you become the Victim of Identity Theft
Immediately contact the financial institution,
cancel the credit cards/accounts and file a fraud report with the company.
Call all three credit bureaus & have a “fraud
alert” placed on your personal credit file.
