Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The personal protective equipment (PPE) is any
equipment which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work which protects him/her against one or more risks to health or safety and any additional accessory designed to meet that objective.
- The principle of PPE in prevention of injuries is to avoid
contact between the hazards and the external or internal parts of the body that is to be protected. PPE can be categorized according to the risk and parts of the body to be protected.

Standards for PPE

Appendix 1 and Appendix 2.
- However, importer/manufacturer is allowed to use
- ther suitable standards as long as the requirements
meet the intended purpose to ensure safety of the user.

Route to DOSH-SIRIM PPE Approval
FACTORY AUDIT AND SAMPLING
- Inspection conducted to examine product details, QC plan adequacy, test
equipment adequacy and calibration, quality system and record-keeping system
- Samples selection and testing
INITIAL TYPE TESTING
- Type Testing in SIRIM QAS International lab (Type Testing to be witnessed by
DOSH officer) OR
- Type Testing at factory lab or 3rd party lab or an accredited lab to ISO/IEC 17025
supervised by SIRIM Tester and to be witnessed by DOSH Officer
- Any 3rd part lab or an accredited lab shall AGREE to allow Type Testing to be
supervised by SIRIM Tester and to be witnessed by DOSH Officer
APPROVAL PROCESS & LICENCE
- Certification Report preparation and recommendation to Certification Panel
- Approval by Certification Panel
- The license issued by SIRIM QAS International will be used by the Manufacturers /
Importers for approval from DOSH
DOSH APPROVAL
- Apply for DOSH Approval (Refer to Route to DOSH Approval)
- Addition of new model – similar to Initial Type Test
- (for DOSH Approval: Test Report No. to be reflected in the SIRIM Product
Certification Licence)

SURVEILLANCE & RE-EVALUATION TESTING
- Planned inspections and re-tests conducted to monitor
continuing compliance
- Re-evaluation test for models in license every 5 years
APPLICATION for SIRIM LABEL
- SIRIM Label will be approved for 3 months production
quantity RENEWAL
- Approval for renewal after satisfactory surveillance
audit, re-evaluation test and payment of fees.
