UNCLASSIFIED Transportation Engineering Agency When Guidance is Not Followed: Vandals Mess with Side Skirts • M1 side skirt armor latch opened (likely due to vandals) allowing Arizona side skirt to swing out. Skirt Latch March 2015 • The skirt took out three side train signals before being knocked off the tank. • It took emergency M1 Side Skirts repair teams four hours to replace or repair the Not Secured damaged train signals. • Due to the damaged signals, 8 trains were delayed and the major east/west track was shut down. 14 TRU STE D PRO FE SSI O N A L S…DE LI VE RI NG RE A D I N E SS A N D LE TH A L I TY! UNCLASSIFIED Transportation Engineering Agency When Guidance is Not Followed: Barstow, CA Gun Barrel Not Restrained July 2018 The Stryker Mobile Gun System did not have its turret secured for transport (locks engaged). As a result, the turret moved while being rail transported and struck something, damaging the turret and gun barrel. 15 Another Stryker vehicle sustained tire damage when being driven over a “dirty” railcar.
