  • Creating a coherent, modern transport network providing access to all EU

regions is a basic condition for enhancing the competitiveness of the European transport system.

  • For the Central Europe region it is important to strengthen the transit function
  • f international transport routes on the north-south axis, including the TEN-T

North Sea-Baltic core network corridor.

  • The most important transport links between Poland and the Baltic States - Via

Baltica and Rail Baltica – which are also elements of this TEN-T core network corridor.

  • Poland is consistently implementing investment projects in this corridor and

will continue to do so in the current EU financial perspective, as far as funds are available.

  • Strategy for Responsible Development, a new midterm strategy for Poland,

recently adopted by the Polish Government, underlines the necessity of realization of TEN-T core network corridors, which will strengthen connectivity

  • f all regions of the Union.

  • The challenges for the North Sea-Baltic Sea corridor to meet the

requirements of the TEN-T baseline have been outlined in the work plan for this corridor.

  • In December 2016 the work plan for this corridor was updated and its final

version was approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction.

  • One of the key investments in North Sea – Baltic Corridor mentioned in this

work plan is Via Baltica which will be completed in Poland, in the standard express road, until 2022.

  • The Polish side appreciates the efficient and very good cooperation with the

Lithuanian side at the preparation of the Expressway S61 section Ostrów Mazowiecka - Budzisko on the Polish side and the A5 Kaunas-Kalwaria road

  • n the Lithuanian side being part of the Via Baltica.
  • Among other things, thanks to this cooperation, the Polish application to the

CEF call for 2014 received a positive decision of the European Commission for the section Szczuczyn - state border.
