  1. Detect ctor Charact cterization fo for the underground gr gravitational-wave detect ctor, KAGRA Keiko Kokeyama, Takahiro Yamamoto, Taka-aki Yokozawa, Chihiro Kozakai, Yuta Fujikawa, Shoichi Oshino, Tatsuki Washimi, Alex Urban, Siddharth Soni, and Duncan MacLeod (on behalf of the KAGRA collaboration) @ TAUP2019, September 10 th , 2019 Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 0

  2. Mot Motivation on Our ultimate questions is… Does this series of h(t) channel have the GW signal? But… 2 nd gen Interferometer (ifo) is so complex! Not everyone can easily access to What GPS time to analyze? • When was the ifo operating? • What channels to see? There are • 100,000 aux channels! How to determine the detector • status? Detector Characterization! Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 1

  3. Ho How w to ans answer er thes these e ques questio tions ns? Information from interferometer (ifo) controls Subsystem’s status • • (cryogenic, vacuum…) ETMY 3 km IMC ITMY PSL IFI IMTX ETMX PRM PR3 PR2 BS 3 km IMM SR2 SR3 SRM Monitoring tools • Glitch and line findings • OMM Channel information • Environmental Monitors (PEM) • OMC weather, earthquake… Study the correlation between • Distinguish the ifo status and data quality PEM and GW channel data by understanding a lot of data and information = Detector Characterization! 4. Recent Progress of Detchar team With a lot of help from VIRGO and LIGO • Installed tools § Summary pages (interferometer status by LIGO) § ligoDV (signal visualization by LIGO) § Omicron (glitch finding by VIRGO) § Omega scan (glitch visualization by LIGO-VIRGO) § Fscan (line noise visualization by LIGO) § Spectrogram plot tool (by Kozakai) § Bruco (Correlation search by VIRGO) § Generating the data quality information (by Yamamoto) For tool info, Kozakai JGW-1910784 Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 3

  6. Summary Pages Timeseries of ifo states Spectrum of h(t) Python software • Easy access with web browser • Spectrogram of h(t) Show Interferometer status and summary • h(t) and BNS Sensitivity • Developed by Duncan MacLeod • Installed in the KAGRA site • Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 5

  7. Engineering Run Summary Engineering Run was done with intermediate ifo configurations so far • June 8 (X arm) for 6 hours • July 13 (Michelson ifo) for 6 hours The purpose is to check the interferometer (ifo) end to end • Interferometer and related hardware • Detchar software • Calibrations • Deta analysis pipelines Run summary was created using Summary Pages • Summary of the Guardian states • Guardian is an automatic control system (“State machine”) by J. Rollins • Many different ifo process towards operation are automatically controlled by Guardian • Each process is recorded in the GRD channels Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 6

  8. Yokozawa, JGW-G1910474 Engineering Run Summary Timeseries of ifo states Suspension Data acquisition PMC unlock trouble (PR2) trouble (upstream trouble) Histogram of ifo states Pie chart of ifo states Operation In process of operation Duty cycle 95.5%! Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 7

  9. C. Kozakai Daily Summary Example 1 VIS (suspension) page Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 8

  10. T. Yokozawa Daily Summary Example 2 PEM team Physical environmental monitor page => Seismometer No earth quake… Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 9

  11. C. Kozakai Nightly Summary Typical spectrum as reference Spectrum of last night By automatically run to create this page during night commissioners can understand the suspension status at a glance when they come in (saving time to compute low frequencies during the work time) Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 10

  12. F. Robinet Glitch Summary T. Yamamoto C. Kozakai Detchar must be able to say if glitches in h(t) are • due to external disturbances or not Share information with data analysis pipelines • • Omicron was applied on the already-commissioned subsystems • Lock loss study using this page. See, Kokeyama, JGW-G1809258 Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 11

  13. Line Visualization S. Oshino Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 12

  14. Our Next Steps • The top page is waiting for h(t)! • More improvements for subsystem pages (adding more pages and channels) • Make more stable (removing expired channels) • After sharing auxiliary channels, join the LIGO- VIRGO network page Sep/10/2019 JGW-G1910794 13
