Defining EBCL descriptors for RS and PS (1)

In many cases the CEFR descriptors were judged suitable and did not

undergo any changes: E.g. C-RS1-A2.1-1 and E-RS1-A2-1 are identical: Can understand phrases and expressions related to areas of most immediate priority (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment) provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated.

In some cases 1 CEFR descriptor was split into 2

E.g. Defining EBCL descriptors for RS and PS (3)

• In some cases descriptors coming from other souces were added to better specify and

contextualize the original CEFR descriptor or to provide a descriptor for a sublevel. E.g.

C-PS2-A2.1-1 and C-PS2-A2.1-2

• Can describe his/her family, living conditions, educational background, present or most recent

job.

• Can describe people, places and possessions in simple terms.

Were accompanied by E-PS2-A2-3, E-PS2-A2-4 and E-PS2-A2-5

• Can use simple words to describe a common object with regard to its size, shape and colour.

• I can say what I usually do at home, at university, in my free time. [ELP Descriptor No 34-PS2-

• Can introduce in short simple terms the various departments, facilities, etc. when giving a guest a

Defining EBCL descriptors for RS and PS (4)

In some cases the CEFR or other descriptors were slightly modified to better suit

Chinese language learners E.g. C-RS4-A2.1-1 Can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. Has been substituted by E-RS4-A2-1 I can understand short, clear and simple messages I can hear at the airport/railway station etc., like "The train to Tianjin leaves at 4:30". [ELP-ECML/BERGEN]

Matching Descriptors with Theme and Function lists

After the creation of the EBCL Themes and Sub-themes List and the EBCL

Function List, the descriptors where matched with them whenever possible. Note: matches were not possible when the descriptor was too general: E.g. E-RS3-A2+-1 I can understand short simple stories when told clearly and slowly.[ELP-ECML/BERGEN]

In the case of Reception Spoken, the linked themes and functions are meant

in a receptive way E.g. F1.4 介绍 ‘Introduction’, in RS is to be understood as ‘listen to an introduction’.

Adding Examples for RS

• Samples for RS where preferably taken from ‘real life situations’.
• The learner is not expected to understand the meaning of all the words.
• An alternative version of RS descriptors is available with examples in pinyin only.
• Some samples have been written referring to our teaching experience.
• Some have been taken from the internet (Youtube, CCTV and other online

sources)

• Some have been taken from a textbook: Masini et al., Il Cinese per gli italiani, 2
• vols. (Milano 2010)
