The teacher often will:

  • work with a focus group to set off a group on an

activity

  • assess the activity mid-session to decide if there are
  • pportunities to ‘deepen’ or stretch learning
  • differentiate through the use of different interpretations
  • f an objective or task
  • ‘block’ learning to ensure a unit is covered sufficiently

We use our TAs to:

  • pre-learn with children
  • consolidate learning through extension tasks
  • direct classroom management while the teacher

works with a focus group

  • assesses learning to support judgements made by

the teacher mid-session and post-session

Children:

  • have a ‘menu’ option of bronze, silver and gold (and sometimes

platinum!) to choose from in activities; they are often ‘guided’ to make suitable choices

  • complete gold/silver tasks, which are often more ‘applied’

activities to deepen learning

  • are given links between subjects to provide broader ‘contexts’

to learning- eg GPS/Phonics, maths, science skills applied to non- ‘core’ subjects

  • Have more time to complete tasks- built into and beyond the

session
