  1. December 2015 Anisa Afzal Award Jack Gardner The Anisa Afzal Award is presented in memory of a Year 7 student, who during 2007, lost her battle with Cancer. Anisa was a phenomenal young lady. In the short time that she was a member of our school community, she made a huge impact on the lives of others. She was vibrant, dedicated to learning, and spread joy to all around her, a real asset to Denefield School. The award is presented to a student who is considered to have made an outstanding contribution to all aspects of school life during their first year of secondary school and therefore each year will be presented to a year 7 student. Bolam Shield (MFL) Aimee Doyle Mr and Mrs Bolam donated this prize in 1992 in recognition of all the hard work and encouragement MFL staff gave their two daughters during their time at Denefield. Rosemary and Frances Bolam attended Denefield School and were both keen and able linguists. In fact Frances went on to become a teacher of languages and head of department. Childs Award (Leisure & Tourism/Geography) Emma Doyle This award was donated to the school by an ex - colleague Charlie Fisher in 2006. She dedicated this award to the memory of Caroline Childs who sadly passed away that year. She had been a tremendous support to students within the geography department. The award is therefore given not just for good results but in recognition of hard work, determination and progress made over the course or either GCSE or A Level. Creativity Award (English or Media Studies) Philippa Sale Da Vinci Award, AS Art Sophie Day Da Vinci Award, AS Design Bradley Cox Da Vinci Award, A2 Art Emilee Peppett Da Vinci Award, A2 Design Laima Petrauskaite Da Vinci Award Liam Beazley

December 2015 Denefield Design & Technology Shield Hannah Lack Food & Textiles Technology Jade Archibald Denefield Young Scientist of the Year Grace King This award is given to the student who we feel deserves the title of ‘Young Scientist of the Year’ for their independent work in Science. Drama Award Hollie Alexander Emma Doyle Hancock Shield (Mathematics) Josie Elliott HSBC Business Award Robert Maddams National Westminster Bank Trophy Sebastian Biegala Humanitas Award Michael Williams ICT Flame of Achievement Adam Jones Lisa Downey Trophy (PE) Ellise Lose Lisa was an excellent PE teacher who was very popular with both her colleagues and students alike, she had an amazing zest for life. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer and died in 1992 at just 25. Her parents donated this trophy, to be awarded in her memory. It is awarded to the top girl and/or top boy – both in achievement and attitude. (This trophy is for Year 9 students.) Sue Lambrigtsen Katie Barrett Sue was the first Head of Girls’ physical education here at Denefield School. She left in 1979 and donated this trophy to be awarded to the top girl and/or top boy – both in achievement and attitude. (This trophy is for Year 11 students.)

  3. December 2015 Mander Plate (Music) Frances Whitehead The Mander Plate was donated by a previous technology teacher at Denefield in the mid 1990’s. It recognises outstanding contributions to the musical life of the school. The winner of this prize needs to be able to show the ability to commit to a range of extra curricular activities including participation in concerts and school musicals. They often show skill in a number of musical instruments and will display a technical ability, giving of their time to help plan, prepare and set up performance spaces in terms of lighting, sound and staging. Mercer Cup (Music GCSE) Harry Pandya The Mercer Cup was donated by Tony Mercer in 2005; he was the first and long serving Head of Music here at Denefield School. The cup is in recognition of outstanding musical achievement and is awarded to the student with the highest grade at GCSE. The winner of this prize must show aptitude in all musical aspects including the ability to perform to a high standard both as a soloist and a group, the ability to compose original musical ideas and the ability to listen to music with an attentive and selective ear showing they can discriminate between different musical styles and cultures. Morrish Cup Jack Ellison This is an award that is presented annually to a ‘good Daniella Charles egg’ student. It was donated by an ex - member of staff, Dave Morrish, in the early 1990’s, with the following stipulated criteria:  A good set of academic report grades for effort  The student will have represented the school in any one or more of the following activities: music, drama, sport  The student will have also helped the school community eg at school functions  In addition the student may well be involved in other activities in their personal life (drama production at the Hexagon, playing in a band etc) which significantly contributes to their all round development.

  4. December 2015 Russell Deacon Sociology Award Edou Abdul - Latif Russell Deacon Sociology Award is a prestigious award in the Social Sciences. It was introduced by Russell Deacon, the Professor of Welsh Governance and History at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and was first presented in 2008. Professor Deacon heads the Department of Humanities at the University and has established links with other higher education institutions in the UK. His Sociology Award recognises the work and contribution to the study of Sociology by A level and university students. The Bald Eagle Award (Sports Leader of the Year) Madeleine Ham The Bald Eagle Award is a relatively new award which was first presented in 2010. It was devised by Roger Toms, a long serving Head of PE at the school. The award itself recognises the achievements of our Sports Leaders who have worked hard throughout the year to promote and encourage participation in physical activity within Denefield. The Bald Eagle Award was given its name after the qualities that the Bald Eagle possesses which is characterised as being courageous, innovative and a natural leader.
