Current State

All users can currently do on

  • ur site is download

Users are referred to Earthdata to subset, reformat or reproject. Users struggle with the terms used in the “Get Data” box

Research Process

 Blink performed initial research

 Ten scientist participants with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels  Questions vetted and supplemented by NSIDC

 Post-research, both NSIDC and Blink created wireframes

 Both sets of wireframes were tested, to compare and contrast  Seven participants; many were from previous research group

 Final wireframes incorporated feedback on both proposals

Research Highlights

How our users work

 Participants frequently used scripting for visualizations  Participants used both web interface and scripting to access data  Python users were interested in sharing and working with others  Participants were interested in support for cloud functionality

 Processing and sharing  Some security access concerns

 Participants were split over file browsing on the data landing page

 Users want an option to view a list of files for individual download

 Participants wanted to see a demonstration of the data in use

Research Highlights

Technology in hand

 Participants all used larger monitors (25 inches or more)

 90% Macs  Occasional need to use laptop without monitor (e.g., airports)  Points to a need to better utilize screen real estate

 Participants would use mobile, but only for documentation

 Ensure site is responsive for all documentation  Avoid PDFs
