Leverage our “Systemness” • Market the size, scale and strengths of the SUNY system to the funding community • Fund system-wide programs and initiatives to benefit multiple campuses such as: o Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) o Applied Learning o TeachNY o Hardship Relief Grant Programs

  7. Why a SUNY Foundation? Build on the success of the $18M Investment and Performance Fund • Initial requests totaled $69 million • 32 proposals funded • 22 state-operated campuses received awards (with 9 community college collaborators) • The average award amount was $564,000

  8. Why a SUNY Foundation? Convene philanthropic stakeholders • Board of directors and an advisory board will be recruited from the national corporate, private foundation, and education sectors. • Board recruitment will focus on individuals who are passionate about transforming New York State through public higher education and who have a personal or professional ability to steer philanthropic dollars to the SUNY system.

EOP Fund Disbursement • Request for proposals (RFP) released in August 2017 to campuses with existing EOPs • Areas of impact for funding consideration include: o Evidence-based strategies towards the SUNY System’s completion goals o Innovative student success initiatives and strategies o Support for student participation in high impact activities such as international study or internships • Proposal submissions will be reviewed in late 2017 and awards will be distributed in early 2018

  13. Communities Against Hate Grant Open Society Foundations grant received in spring 2017 allows us to: • Fund diversity, equity and inclusion training at the 2017 Student Assembly Conference. • Create a Communities Against Hate fund that provides compensation to SUNY students in the wake of hate crimes or act of discriminations. • Collaborate with Student Affairs and other campus-based offices throughout the system on how to address and build dialogue around hate crimes and discrimination.

  14. Our Vision Moving Forward •Strengthen existing relationships with foundations, corporations and philanthropists who share an interest in driving student success in New York State •Cultivate new philanthropic relationships •Explore partnership opportunities with campus Advancement efforts
