About Us

  • The Center for Collaborative Change connects people, ideas and

resources to make Newark thrive.

  • The mission of the Center for Collaborative Change is to engage

community members and assist civic leadership in developing policies and programs in order to accelerate Newark’s revitalization while ensuring an inclusive process.

  • The collaborative change model is premised on the idea that if efforts

are better designed and aligned to address the city’s most pressing needs, the effects of these investments will multiply, ultimately making Newark thrive.

Our Opportunity

With its energy, tenacity, diversity, and promise, Newark, NJ, has access to the resources and expertise it needs to transform into a place of health, safety and opportunity for all.

Why We Exist

  • Newark is “resource-rich, but collaboration-poor.”
  • Change efforts are too infrequently based upon data-

driven needs assessments and evidence-based practices.

  • Community members often feel that they have not been

consulted before change efforts are set in motion, breeding skepticism and hostility toward otherwise well- intentioned efforts.

slide-6
SLIDE 6
  • To get there, we need to focus on the things that

matter most to people and that have the greatest potential for saving and improving their lives.

  • Then, we need to invest in high impact solutions

that harness the unique assets of our community to meet those unique community needs.

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Specifically, we do four things.

  • Assess community needs and assets
  • Build solutions through research and innovation
  • Connect ideas, people and resources to implement

these solutions

  • Develop opportunities for civic participation
slide-8
SLIDE 8

That’s why the first element of the Collaborative Change model is to synthesize community-level data with stakeholder insights. This allows us to identify priority issues for which there is the greatest community need, the political will for change, and the potential to fuel a cycle of opportunity in our city.

  • A. NEEDS ASSESSMENTS

The Center believes that Newark must invest in solutions to issues that people care most about and in interrupting the cycle of poverty, violence and disinvestment that holds our city back.

  • Assess community needs and assets
