Wellbeing Lessons

We know that connectedness in learning communities promotes positive mental health. When children and young people feel like they belong in a community, they’re more likely to develop:

  • a strong sense of identity – knowing who they are
  • a positive sense of self – liking who they are
  • strong relationships – respecting others.

Wellbeing Lesson format: x1 lesson a fortnight will be taught by their CORE Teacher. The purpose of these lessons is to build connections, teach students to be resilient and to create strong respectful relationships. There are no assessments or exams. The lesson allows students and teachers to get to know each other through activities and challenges working in different group sizes. The Wellbeing Program for Year 7 students will focus on 8 topics of Social and Emotional Learning: Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive coping, Problem solving, Stress Management, Help-seeking, masculinity and how to create positive gender relationships.

Class ss Structure

Year 7 Core Structure Mixed Ability Differentiated approach Diverse Learning At St Edward’s there is significant commitment to students who need support to learn. The classroom is the primary and most important place where learning support is available. However, there are some programs offered which involve smaller groupings in more intensive, short term settings, such as homework help and access to literacy software.

  • Three times a year (Terms 2 and 3) Parent-Teacher interviews are conducted.

Parents are encouraged to attend these sessions with their son.

  • Formal written reports are issued (via the Portal) at the end of Terms 2 and 4.

These reports indicate achievement in a variety of areas, for each subject studied.

  • Interim Reports are based on the College Code for Learning and will be issued

at the end of Terms 1 and 3.

  • Parents who are concerned about their son's progress during the year, or who

wish to check how he is progressing in various courses, should contact the teachers of his courses. Parents can phone the College to arrange a suitable time for a discussion.
