Soft starting, the VSD compressor can be started from 0hz by the inverter. The start current is small. It
can reduce the damage of power network, electric elements and other components. Starting current for the fixed speed start-delta starting is about 3-times motor rated current or HP. Direct start is 6-7 times motor rated current or HP. Example: starting current for a 50hp motor is 150hp(for not exceeding 8 seconds), whereas the SOFT STARTING current for an inverter compressor is only at 25% if motor HP. This means a 50hp inverter compressor needs only 12.5HP starting current!
