  2. Introduction This use case is designed to help provide an alternative way for people to complete a self- assessment of COVID-19 symptoms to determine whether they need to call the designated COVID-19 screening phone number for further assessment by a medical professional. Through SimplyCast’s 360 and SMS tools, an automated smart process can be set up to replicate the online self-assessment tool using text messaging capabilities. People can text a keyword to a shortcode number to begin the self-assessment, with different questions being sent to them based on their replies.

  3. COVID-19 SMS Self Assessment Flow

  4. Beginning the Assessment To begin the COVID-19 self- assessment, a person can text the designated keyword to the shortcode number. They will receive a message back with some basic “help” settings as well as another message asking them to text back [KEYWORD] Y to continue the assessment or STOP to unsubscribe from the service.

  5. Q & A Once the person texts back [KEYWORD] Y to begin the assessment, they will receive another text message with the first question [KEYWORD] Y of the self-assessment. They will be asked to reply back with either [KEYWORD] Y or [KEYWORD] N depending on how they wish to answer.

  6. Assessment Results Based on the responses provided, the person will continue to receive additional Yes or No questions until they reach one of three endpoints in the automated flow: Call the COVID-19 Screening Line: • The person appears to have the symptoms that warrant further assessment by a medical professional Self-isolate: The person may not have • any symptoms but circumstances require them to self-isolate for 14 days Don’t call the COVID -19 Screening • Line: The person does not have any symptoms or need to self-isolate for the time being

  7. Re-assessments STOP If the person was told either to self- isolate for 14 days or that they did not need to call the COVID-19 screening line, they will also be told how to take the self-assessment again if anything changes with their health. To retake the assessment, the person must text STOP to the shortcode number to unsubscribe and then send a new text with the designated keyword to begin the flow again. [KEYWORD]

  8. Conclusion Since 2009, SimplyCast has built an engagement and communication technology stack completely in house, which means the solution is not reliant on third-party providers and can be deployed at a moment’s notice. With this technology, SimplyCast has developed an emergency technology and critical engagement solution to support national governments, provincial and state administrators, and municipal health providers. The technology can be used for mass notifications, teleconferencing, live polling, first responder recall, and more. SimplyCast created this COVID-19 template within the existing solution with no technological modification or additional development. This solution is 100% customizable and can be adjusted to meet your organization’s specific needs.
