  3. 02/02/2020 Squirrel Leadership September 2018 Welcome to our new leaders Doreen Webb & Louis Mallon Monday night - Christine Scott, Susan Hill, Doreen Webb & Louis Mallon Wednesday night – Natalie Wray, Neeta Cubitt, Mark Gibson & Laura Greer Explorers helping out both nights 5 Squirrel Activities Work continued on Smile Badges programme 2 badges achieved: I’m Active I’m Learning  Visit from Fire Brigade  Sponsored scoot / cycle around the Down Royal racecourse  Visit from Debbie Doolittle and her animals  Jumping Clay night  Science night  Hillsborough Rocks  Themed nights  End of year party at VC  +++ more!! 6 3

  4. 02/02/2020 Beaver Section Leader’s Report • In September 2018, we started off with 2 strong colonies with 24 Beavers in each. Approximately half of these Beavers were invested in November. • These were held on: – Thursday nights led by Tara, Rosemary, Georgie and Hazel. – Friday nights led by Jo McCue, Joanne Kelly, Judith Flowerday and Joanne Rea. • Our focus throughout the year was on badgework, and combining this with as many outdoor experiences as possible, and of course, lots of fun! Badges completed included: Space, Navigator, Disability Awareness, Experiment and Health and Fitness. Hikes Way and Nights Away badges were also gained by those who attended our camps during the year. 7 Beaver Activities • Other activities throughout the year included: • District Christmas Quiz at Hillhall. • Beaver Rally Day • Winter Camp at Cultra (1 night). • Summer Camp at Lorne (2 nights). • Beaver Rally Day at Crawfordsburn • Trips to the Forest Park from Easter • Sponsored Fun Run: At the end of May we held our second official Fun Run in Hillsborough Forest Park. Cubs were also invited along to this event this year. It was a great night, despite the rain, supported by both Beavers and Cubs. All children successfully completed the course, raised an amazing amount of money for Beaver and Cub funds and had a lot of fun along the way. 8 4

  5. 02/02/2020 Cub Section Leader’s Report (1/2) Cub Scouts attended over two evenings in 2018/19. • Akela David Anderson was in charge for both nights with 6 Leaders • supporting the Cubs Pack in 2018/19. Badge completed to date: Book Reader, Disability Awareness, DIY, • Entertainer, Scientist, Fire Safety, Home Help, Home Safety, Nights Away, Hikes, Swimmer, Equestrian, Sailing, Nautical Skills, Paddle Sports, Snow sports & Martial Arts. Winter Residential at The Ulster Folk Museum November 2018 was • enjoyed by all. National Museum Open day on the Sunday saw the Museum organising a scavenger hunt that the Cubs participated in. Ten Pin Bowling at Lisburn was the Christmas party location and it • was great to bring the two nights together. 9 Cub Section Leader’s Report (2/2) Summer Camp 2019 to Lorne Estate. Activities attended included • Team Building, Bush Craft, Abseiling, High Rise Crate Climbing and Wood exploration. A very wet weekend added to the challenges for the weekend. A lot of fun had by all! David Anderson is handing the Akela of Tuesday nights cubs over • to Georgie Huston who has two years Leader experience with Scouts USA and a year with 1 st Hillsborough Cubs. David is also considering handing Monday nights over to Stuart Gracey and Mike McCracken to run jointly. Thank you to the support and guidance of many to ensure our Cubs • are having a super year! 10 5

  6. 02/02/2020 Scout Section Leader’s Report • 23 scouts Tuesday, xx scouts Wednesday • Completed Navigator / Emergency Aid/Pioneer/ Entertainer / Sports Enthusiast badges • Completed Personal, Team Work and Outdoor Challenge badges • 11 scouts on Summer camp, 2-3 badges earned. 11 Scout Section Leader’s Report • Commitment to Scouts from Sept to June • Focus on taking care of possessions and uniform and good behaviour • Opportunities to earn badges outside Scouts, i.e. music, sports etc. Let us see certificates, reports etc. on progress • Duke of Edinburgh Bronze 12 6
