  19. WORLD LANGUAGES (Year) ⦿ FRENCH 1B ⦿ SPANISH 1B ⦿ YOU MUST BE IN A WORLD LANGUAGE CLASS THIS YEAR TO BE IN THE CLASS. ⦿ YOU MUST CONTINUE WORLD LANGUAGE THAT YOU STARTED IN 7 TH GRADE. YOU MAY THEN ENROLL IN THE SECOND YEAR LEVEL IN 9 TH GRADE.

ART FUNDAMENTALS (Year) ⦿ For students wanting to pursue a career in visual arts ⦿ Create original artwork in realistic, abstract, and nonobjective styles ⦿ This course is a prerequisite for higher level art courses in high school. It is also offered in high school. ⦿ If you take and pass the course in 8th grade, you will not receive a fine arts credit on your high school transcript. Therefore, you still have to meet the Fine Arts credit requirement in high school. This advanced course is meant for students who want to take the class early in 8th grade so they can take more upper level art classes once they get to high school. ⦿ Various projects, Midterm Exam, Final Exam, and 5 paragraph essay required.

ART (Semester) ⦿ Will create original, two and three dimensional art ⦿ Use drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture techniques to experiment with realistic and abstract art ⦿ Analyze and critique artworks, discuss aesthetic issues ⦿ Understand how design is related to history and culture

THEATRE ARTS WORKSHOP (Semester) ⦿ Explore theatre activities involving: observational skills, movement, improvisation, script writing, scene work, teamwork, voice work, and performance. ⦿ Learn to develop knowledge of theatre and action using your imagination. ⦿ Evaluations are based primarily on performance reflections and goal setting, with few scores based on performance skills. ⦿ Acting is active. Be Prepared to work hard, participate, and learn fine skills.

THEATRE ARTS STUDIO (Semester) ⦿ Prerequisite: Completion of 7 th or 8 th Grade Theatre Arts Workshop (or approval or Ms. Jones). ⦿ Explore theatre activities involving: observational skills, movement, improvisation, script writing, scene work, teamwork, voice work, and performance. ⦿ Learn to develop knowledge of theatre and action while using your imagination. ⦿ Evaluations are based primarily on performance skills, performance reflections, and goal setting. ⦿ Acting is active. Be prepared to use your reading and writing skills. Working well with others is a must.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES LIFE SKILLS I 08/LIFE SKILLS II 08 (Semester) ⦿ Intermediate level sewing projects and food labs. ⦿ Develop family and consumer knowledge. ⦿ Life Skills I includes an addition of Interior design. Life Skills II includes an addition of Child Development ⦿ Prerequisite for Life Skills II is passing Life Skills I in 7 th grade. ⦿ Students may take only one FACS class in 8 th grade.

BUSINESS LAUNCH (Semester) ⦿ Will develop, design and run a class business. ⦿ Learn, experience and apply the necessary skills for success as an entrepreneur. ⦿ Understand basic business terminology, create advertisements using a variety of multimedia tools, apply basic marketing concepts, engage in the production/manufacturing/selling process, and understand the role business ethics play in successful businesses

  26. AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS (Semester) ⦿ Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robitics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. ⦿ Use the VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program real-world scenarios such as traffic lights, dragster,s robotic arms, and an automated assembly line.

  27. COMPUTER SCIENCE 1: GAME & APP DESIGN (Semester) ⦿ DO NOT Take if you took this course in 7th grade ⦿ Students will create images, animations, interactive art, and games. ⦿ You will practice design, testing, and iteration (making changes), as you come to see that failure and debugging are an expected and valuable part of the programming process. ⦿ Your final project will be to create an interactive game that you can share with friends and family.

  28. Cyber Innovations (Semester) ⦿ Although not required, some experience in coding or computer science is recommended ⦿ Students will continue to further develop their programming knowledge by exploring digital tools such as Scratch, Python, Circuit Playgrounds, and Raspberry Pi’s. ⦿ We will go beyond basic coding as we innovate games, predict the future, utilize motion sensors and cameras, and becoming coding ninjas!

  29. MATERIALS PROCESSING (Semester) ⦿ Hands-on activities to create, construct, and build projects. ⦿ Learn the safe and proper use of tools and machines, wood identification and purchasing, design concepts and problem solving. ⦿ Will use hand and power tools.

  30. HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT ▶ You can earn high school credit for high school level courses taken in middle school (Spanish I & II, French I & II, Algebra I, Geometry, & Algebra II). ▶ The course will be included on your high school transcript with a letter grade AFTER the successful completion of the subsequent course in the subject area in high school. ▶ The letter grade will NOT be included in your high school GPA or for class ranking.
