Culture & Climate: Progression of Leadership

  • School-Wide professional focus on Zaretta Hammond’s Culturally Responsive Teaching

and the Brain (deepening understanding and stereotypes) 2017 – 2018

  • Continuation of separate teams but greater overlap in membership
  • Increased equity training through Beyond Diversity
  • Use of equity tools (working autobiographies, compass, conditions)
  • Completed first school-wide equity walk

2018 – 2019

  • Single “Equity & Inclusion Team” formed, meeting twice-monthly
  • Student Voice workgroup (SOAR and student forums, repeating the student forum

process with the focus on student learning rather than sense of belonging)

may be mismatched with academic achievement

  • Provide an opportunity to hear the narratives of why students feel

connected and where is race plays a role

Guiding question: Panorama is not showing a large gap within groups in sense of belonging.
