2020 Chilkoot Lake Sockeye Salmon Expectations

  • 5-year old fish account for 76% of run over the past 10 brood years.
  • 2015 parent year escapement = 72,000 fish (within goal range of 38,000–86,000 and

major component of 2020 run).

  • 2016 rearing fry population estimate = 1.3 million (40% above average)
  • 2016 zooplankton biomass estimate = 180% above average

➢ 2020 projection = ~200,000 – 250,000 fish

2020 Chilkat Lake Sockeye Salmon Expectations

  • 5-year old fish account for 60% of return and 6-year old fish account for 35% of return
  • ver the past 10 brood years.
  • 2014 escapement (parent year for 6-yr old fish) = ~70,000 fish, just met lower end of

escapement goal of 70,000–150,000 fish.

  • 2015 escapement (parent year for 5-yr old fish) = 176,000 fish -exceeded esc. goal

(largest escapement since early 1990s, major component of 2020 run). ➢ 2020 projection = ~80,000 – 130,000 fish
