HOW WILL THIS WORK AFFECT TRAFFIC AND RESIDENTS?

During construction, there will be temporary lane closures, but traffjc will remain

  • pen in a single-lane alternating traffjc pattern during construction hours.

Construction hours will be scheduled to avoid peak-traffjc times. Two-way traffjc will resume outside of daytime construction hours. Every efgort will be made to minimize disruption to residents, businesses and transit users during construction. Residents will be notifjed well in advance of any traffjc disruption or utility shutofgs.

BURNABY NORTH STREET UPGRADE PROJECT

New sidewalks and urban trails will be funded by the City’s existing capital reserves.

v

When construction requires removal of a tree, the City always ensures that at least one replacement tree is planted in an appropriate location. The number of replacement trees planted will depend upon the size of the tree removed.

CAPITAL BUDGET

The Burnaby Transportation Plan is being updated now – sidewalks are a key component of the Plan!

Construction of sidewalks and urban trails provides

  • pportunities to create

new areas of green space and vegetation, helping to meet the City’s commitment to address climate changes and to support a healthy and livable community.

BURNABY TRANSPORTATION PLAN

Go to burnaby.ca/transportationplan Approximately 25% of Burnaby is parks and green space.

Curb bulges help to: Enhance pedestrian safety by increasing pedestrian visibility; Reduce cross distances between curbs; Encourage vehicles to slow down; Visually narrow the street; and Increase green space and opportunities for street trees, and provide locations for the placement of fjre hydrants. Curb bulges are traffjc calming measures that narrow the street and provide additional pedestrian and landscaping space at key locations. Bulges can be used at street intersections and at mid-block.
