  16. 5. What do we/ breeders get out of the character assessment W e s e Why do we need a character assessment? n s • The VDH requires its breed clubs to make current b behaviour spot checks e u r • The character in its variety and breadth is an outstanding t e quality feature of our German Shepherd dog i l • In the past, mental characteristics assigned to our breeding u n animals were insufficiently recorded g • Pressure placed on our breeders and breed clubs by the general public is steadily rising 2 0 1 7

  17. 6. Definiotn/ exceptions to the character assessment W e s Actions and Guidelines e n s • Dogs between the ages of 9 months to the completion of the b 13th months will be assessed. e u • Entry fee per dog is € 20.00. r • t Whilst the assessment is still voluntary, dogs that do not fit e within this age bracket will also be admitted. i • Assessors will only ‚break off‘ a negative assessment if the dog l u is gun shy or if the dog shows a high level of aggression or is n extremely shy in a friendly situation. g • In the event of a negative result, the character assessment can be repeated once. The repeater dogs will be noted as such in the documentation as a note for the assessors. 2 0 1 7

  18. 7. The next step for the character assessment W e s The next step e n s After the unanimous decison of the SV-BV in May 2014 to b e introduce a SV-Character assessment, for the time being u its implementation in May 2016 will be voluntary. r t e i At the SV-BV 2017, the manager of the Breed book will l u make an application that all SV bred GSDs with a litter date n after 01.07.2017, must provide a character assessment as g part of their breed accreditation. 2 0 1 7
