What’s moving?

  • Haulage of ore
  • Other trucks (supplies)
  • Company vehicles
  • Employee vehicles
  • Visitor vehicles
slide-3
SLIDE 3

How much is moving?

Average ore yield = 100 000t/annum Peak ore yield = 140 000t/annum

SLIDE 4

What type & how many vehicles?

  • Ore haulage vehicles – 19m Rigid Truck and Dog;

12 loads = 24 movements per day

  • Other supply trucks – Rigid Trucks thru’ to Semi-Trailers

2 loads = 4 movements per day

  • Company vehicles - Utes/SUV’s

5 vehicles = 10 movements per day

  • Employee vehicles – Cars

15 cars per shift (2 shifts per day) = 60 movements per day

  • Visitors – Cars

3 cars = 6 movements per day

TOTAL movements per day = 104

slide-5
SLIDE 5

How many vehicles?

Overall, the mine site is expected to generate approximately 104 movements per day

  • n Pfeiffer Road and the surrounding road network
slide-6
SLIDE 6

Where will vehicles travel?

  • Ore haulage – Woodside to Strathalbyn
  • Other supply trucks – depends on type of delivery
  • Company vehicles – depends on activity/user
  • Employee vehicles – as per company vehicles
  • Visitors – depends on who/where

What’s happening on Pfeiffer Road now?

Currently, assuming that daily traffic volumes occur over a 10 hour period each day, on average there is… 1 vehicle every 37 seconds 1 heavy vehicle every 3.9 (say 4) minutes

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Pfeiffer Road with the mine in operation…

Pfeiffer Road will likely experience a total of 1085 vehicles per day = 1 vehicle every 33 seconds Of this, 181 will be Heavy Vehicles = 1 Heavy Vehicle every 3.3 minutes

Keeping away from peak school and commuter traffic

It is proposed that ore haulage truck movements do NOT occur between 6am - 9am and 3pm - 4pm

Ore Haulage

Why a 19m Truck and Dog Trailer?

  • Number of trips needed

vs

  • Ability of roads to cater for proposed vehicle type

vs

  • Operating costs of vehicles

slide-16
SLIDE 16

19m Truck and Dog

  • Carries more than a semi-trailer
  • Although it is more efficient however to use a B-Double
  • 19m Truck and Dog is considered a General Access Vehicle; ie

can travel on any component of the road network

  • Vehicle operating costs of the 19m Truck and Dog very efficient

compared to other options

SLIDE 17

Where will the ore travel?

Woodside to Strathalbyn - 3 possible routes (refer maps): Route 1 – via Nairne Road, Old Princes Hwy, Bald Hills Rd, Hartman Rd, Paech Rd, Wellington Rd & Callington Rd Route 2 – via Nairne Rd, South Eastern Freeway and Callington Rd Route 3 – via Nairne Rd, Nairne Township, Old Princes Hwy and Callington Rd

slide-18
SLIDE 18

Selecting a Preferred Route

Key considerations:

  • Physical assessment
  • Road geometry
  • Surrounding environment
  • Safety
  • Analytical assessment
  • Impact of additional traffic on the road network
  • Social/operational assessment
  • Surrounding land uses
  • Other road users
  • Operational needs of the road network
  • Intended use of the route to fit within its planned role and function
slide-19
SLIDE 19

Physical Assessment

Route 1 Travel time = 35 minutes

  • Roadside vegetation requires trimming
  • Hartman Rd/Sims Rd/Paech Rd junction does not meet

requirements for a General Access Vehicle and needs upgrade

  • Sight distance issues
  • Unsealed shoulders
  • Needs some guard railing
slide-20
SLIDE 20

Physical Assessment

Route 2 Travel time = 40 minutes

  • Roadside vegetation requires trimming
  • Sight distance issues
  • Unsealed shoulders
  • Some warning signage required
slide-21
SLIDE 21

Physical Assessment

Route 3 Travel time = 45 minutes

  • Roadside vegetation requires trimming
  • Nairne Rd/Old Princes Hwy junction does not cater for General

Access Vehicles and needs upgrade

  • Sight distance issues
  • Some warning signage required
slide-22
SLIDE 22

Analytical Assessment

  • Additional traffic as discussed previously
slide-23
SLIDE 23

Social/ Operational Assessment

  • Proximity of residential development
  • Proximity of school traffic
  • Safety of existing junctions
  • Consideration of other nearby land uses
  • Others??
