BIM IM in in Ir Ireland Umbrella Forum – Update #4
Organisation Summary Association of Consulting Engineer ACEI is currently working with the Irish Construction Industry Council (CIC) in investigating an Irish Plan of Works (IPOW). BIM Regions: The Eastern BIM Region host an event on May 30th in TU Dublin’s Bolton Street Campus. Event was well attended with over 40 attendees Upcoming events planned for the Western Region to host a BIM Region event soon. Limerick IT are working on a project that investigate how BIM can assist with achieving cost effective NZEB construction. CIC The CIC is working with other industry bodies in investigating a potential IPOW. Construction Industry Federation (CIF) The CIF Construction 4.0 committee launched the BIM Starter Pack. This pack compliments their 1) BIM standards and Policy Guide and 2) Bidding for BIM Guide. CIF will host the CIF Digicon 2019 event in June 13th in Croke Park. Leica: Lecia is currently working with the Society of Charted Surveyors (SCSI), Institute of Engineering Surveyors and Northern Ireland BIM Hub. National Standards Authority of Ireland: Project proposal to develop a National Annex for I.S. EN ISO 19650-2 will be submitted to the NSAI Board for approval at their meeting scheduled for 13th September. The development of the National Annex will be undertaken by NSAI/TC 047/SC 22/WG 01 “Guidance for implementation of I.S. EN ISO 19650-2”. Working group has been established to discuss and examine the RIAI BIM Pack. The NSAI are now able to offer third-party certification to IS EN ISO 19650 part 2. The NSAI are engaging with building control to look at the future of building control submittals. Public Sector BIM (PSB) The Hackathon was a great success with 13 teams entering each with innovative solutions. The International Construction Measurement Standards Global will be Launched in September. Royal Institute of Architects Ireland (RIAI) RIAI continue to promote their BIM Starter Pack. Currently working on an ISO 19650 version for Q2 2019 which will attempt to align guidance with UK guidance which is currently being prepared by NBS. BIM guidance documents for small practices and for Handover Strategy are being prepared. The RIAI have prepared 2 options for a National Annex to ISO 19650 which will be presented at the NSAI working group meeting NSAI/TC 047/SC 22/WG 01 on 9th May 2019. SCSI: The SCSI is planning to review the RIA BIM Pack regarding establishing potential synergies. Transport Infrastructure Ireland The Dunkettle interchange is being design lead by Jacobs Both in BIM .The Metrolink project post public consultation phase is preparing for Railway Order (planning permission) for submission Q2 -2020. A LUAS depot extension project to include office accommodation is being initiated and will be delivered in BIM. Women in BIM (WIB) WIB Presented at the recent Construction Summit. Other A collective consortium of the SCSI, RIAI, EI, and CIC presented their findings to the CSG on a Roadmap for what services the Centre of Excellence should offer and how it should be funded. This will be presented to the CSG.

1. Model 1: The Digital Centre of Excellence is established within a University, and links are established with Industry and Government (optional). 2. Model 2: The Digital Centre of Excellence is a strategic partnership between two International Universities ( hosted in one or both) and links are established with Industry and Government (optional). 3. Model 3: The Digital Centre of Excellence is a strategic partnership between Government and Academia with links to industry. 4. Model 4: The Digital Centre of Excellence is hosted as an independent organisation with links to academia, industry, and government. 1. Funding Model 1 (Relevant to Partnership Model 1 and 2): These two models are focused on how funding is acquired for a Digital Centre of Excellence that is established as part of a Universities strategic plan. 2. Funding Model 2 (Relevant to Partnership Model 3): Funding, in this case, is provided by Government and then acquired by a University that will work in partnership to deliver the requested R&D. 3. Funding Model 3 (Relevant to Partnership Model 4): Funding for this model is sought by an independent body outside of Academia who receive funding by way of Government or through Industry.
