  11. State Championship Milestones Park View High School has won 15 State Team Championships and 51 Individual State Champions since 1976. We have begun a new tradition of recognizing the milestone anniversaries of our previous state champions.

  12. 40 th Anniversary of the 880 Yard Relay Team • Katy Clark ran the 440 M, Diane Lind Petrella and Jan Ullman Richardson ran the 110 M and Shari Higgs ran the 220 M • Finished 4 th in the District • First Regional and State Champions for PVHS in 1977 • Currently holds PVHS record for 880 yd. relay- 1:51.4 • The girls worked on their handoffs at least 15 minutes each practice and enjoyed being on a relay team. • When runners compete on a relay team another dynamic comes into play: wanting to turn in your best race for “for the success of the group.” • As these girls were not only friends, but hard workers and tough competitors, they made a winning team and some wonderful memories. • Coached by Anne Brooks and Sandy Simpson

  13. 35 th Anniversary of the 1982 Gymnastics Team • District Champions • Regional Champions • All gymnasts who competed in Districts went to Regionals • Competed in the Harrisonburg Invitational and Washington and Lee Invitational on the same day • 3 Seniors on the team: Lisa Zuraw, Martha Foltz and Lia Silva • Lisa Zuraw and Genevieve Cummings Petrella are in the Hall of Fame • State competitors were Aleisa Martin, Lynn Peterson, Lisa Zuraw, Lia Silva and Laura Custer. • Team Slogan: Stay Calm, Stay Tight, Stay On! • Coached by Hall of Fame Coaches Kathleen Dugger and Judy Miller

  14. 35 th Anniversary Scott McGowan Wrestling • District Champion 1981: 98 lbs. • District Champion 1983: 119 lbs. • Regional Runner Up 1981: 98 lbs. • Regional Runner Up 1982: 105 lbs. • 3 rd place State 1981: 98 lbs. • State Champion: 1982: 105 lbs. • Knee injury in his Senior year kept him from any competition until the District match where he took 1 st place • Coached by Hall of Fame Coaches Mack Piercy and Greg Mitchell

  15. 30 th Anniversary Scott Steele Wrestling • District Champion • Region Champion • State Champion in 132 lbs weight class for 1986 • Washington Post All Met – Honorable Mention 1985 • Currently holds 2 PV Wrestling records • PVHS Male Athlete of the Year - 1987 • Washington Post All Met – 1986 • US Naval Academy Prep School • Currently working and coaching in Loudoun County Public Schools • Living in Lake Frederick, Virginia • Was an inaugural member of the 2010 PV Hall of Fame • Coached by Hall of Fame Coaches Landon “Mack” Piercy and Greg Mitchell

  16. 25 th Anniversary of the 1992 Boy’s Soccer Team • District Champions • Regional Champions • Record of 16 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie • Won all post season games on the road • Defeated Blacksburg in the State final by a score of 1-0 • Zach Gross scored the winning goal • Coached by Phil Rosenthal and Rick Sarr

  17. 25 th Anniversary Mark Hernandez Wrestling • Lettered all 4 years in Wrestling • District Champion • Regional Champion • State Runner Up – 1991 • State Champion: 112 lb. -1992 • State Champion: 119 lb. – 1993 • State Champion: 125 lb. – 1994 • Current PV Wrestling Record Holder: Take Downs, Near Falls, Pins, Wins, Team Points • Washington Post All Met: 3 years • Wrestled 3 years for the University of Virginia • Currently working for the US Department of State • Inducted in to the PVHS Hall of Fame – 2011 • Coached by Hall of Fame Coaches Mack Piercy and Greg Mitchell

  18. 15 th Anniversary of the 2002 Softball Team • Runner Up in the District and Regionals to Broad Run • Lost to Broad Run 4 times in the season before winning the State game in 14 innings by a score of 1-0 • Missed the Prom because the State final was held in Radford on Prom Night • “Home field advantage” was the football team parked in a truck along the 1 st base side • Karie Morrison, Megan Smith and Veronica Skinner and Julia Dominquez were named 1 st team Washington Post All Met • Members of this team have returned to LCPS as teachers and coaches • Megan Smith & Karie Morrison were inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2014 • Coached by Hall of Fame Coach Beth Walker and Stephanie Walley
