  • Scores were 2nd all year to Handley HS

until the State Championship

35th Anniversary of the 1983 Gymnastics Team

  • The team lost 2 seniors from the 82 State

Champs and returned 5 seniors

  • Went undefeated in all dual and tri meets
  • They were District, Region and State

Champions

  • 7 members qualified for the Region meet
  • Newcomer Michelle Roth placed in 4

events and won the regional all around competition

  • Michelle and Laura Custer scored enough

in state competition to make PV champs

  • Supported by team parents and PV staff

members Mr. Peterson and Ms. Wimer

  • Mrs. Bibb, PV assistant principal, often

attended meets and was considered their good luck charm

  • Coached by Hall of Fame Coaches

  • First freshman at PVHS to qualify for the

state wrestling tournament

  • Placed in the District tournament all 4 years
  • Placed in the Region II tournament all 4

  • Placed in the State Tournament- 3 years
  • Was a Team Captain for Junior and Senior

years

  • Went undefeated in his Senior year with

record of 28-0 for the 155 lb weight class

  • Did not allow a single point to be scored

against him in the District, Region or State tournament in 1983

  • First PVHS wrestler to be offered a Division I

scholarship

  • Won the District and Region
  • Won the 10th consecutive District

Gymnastics title with a score of 105

  • The 88 team was the strongest overall

team that PVHS ever had

  • Swept through the regular season

undefeated

  • 3 seniors and a talented group of

underclassmen

  • Leah Terrell Costello, Theresa Cummings

and Kristi McDonald led the competition at all three levels

  • Leah, Theresa and Kristi are members of

the PVHS Hall of Fame

  • Team score for the state meet was an

astonishing 104.7 points

  • First year that the Patriots played on the

field at PVHS

  • Only Patriot football team to go

undefeated with a record of 14-0

  • Tony Conway broke the school record of

most yards rushing and touchdowns

  • Chris Dawson tied a state record with 58

yard field goal

  • 11 players were named to the All District

team

  • 7 players were named to the 1st team All

Region and All State team

  • Defeated Brookville HS for the crown by a

score of 51-7
