Animal Farm Final Assessment Persuasive Presentation THE TASK:

To demonstrate that you understand & can apply the techniques of persuasion & propaganda, you will give an

  • ral presentation, using textual evidence and/or thematic concepts from the book to support your ideas. All

choices require teacher approval on the speech planning sheet.

THE CHOICES:

The Advertising Executive

Create & propose a product to clients on The Farm. You have to decide the audience & the product & then create a sales pitch to sell it. Look to current advertising, including commercials & infomercials for models. Consider, for example, how you might market a product like “Farmer-B-Gone.” Use events & details from the novel in your proposal.

Master Spinner

Adopt the persona of Squealer & give a speech to convince your audience of a necessary course of action. You will have to create the situation (problem) & propose its solution. You may use one of the ideas below

  • r you may propose your own (with teacher approval). Chapter 10 would be a great place to look for ideas.

Here are a few to consider:  Some years have passed & the farm needs a second windmill. Convince the animals to build it.  Convince the animals why it is important to enter business partnerships with the human farmers.  The name of the farm must be changed.

Real World Problem Solver

Identify a real-world, current problem & address one side of the issue. You can address the issue in a variety

  • f ways. Whatever format/persona/context you choose, you will present the information to the class. The

work must be original, so you cannot simply present a speech/letter/paper given by someone else. The

  • ptions are endless, but consider, perhaps:

 writing a letter to a leader convincing him or her to take a certain action  writing an editorial arguing a specific point of view on the topic  adopting the persona of one leader & address another, or address the public  writing a political speech about the issue
