Distance Learning Schedules
2020-2021
A typical day 4
A typical school day…
- As you look over the next few slides with the daily schedule, know that these are
required instructional minutes. This does NOT mean that your student will be on the screen this entire time. If you think about an in-school model, the teacher will provide direct instruction (lecture) on a topic, move into small-group and/or guided instruction and then release students to work independently.
- What does this mean for home? Students will have a combination of synchronous
(live interaction with teacher and/or classmates) and asynchronous (offline) work to complete throughout the day.
- A teacher’s individual schedule will be provided on August 10th during the Meet the
Teacher and Supply Pickup Drive-thru. Please remember that with anything, our schedules are flexible in that they are based off of student need. They may fluctuate slightly as we get into the swing of things. However, you can anticipate that students will be engaged in learning for the number of minutes required.
Class Schedules 5
Class Schedules
Class schedules will vary depending on your child’s teacher. Although you can expect the same amount of instructional minutes for each of your children, exact times for whole group, Google Meets, small group, or independent instruction may vary. Copies of the schedule will be proved to you on August 10th when your child picks up materials.

This year, Distance Learning will look different than the learning opportunities offered when COVID-19 closed schools in the spring. This year, your student will attend school five days a week, Monday through Friday, in a virtual classroom with their teacher and be engaged for the minutes required by the state both synchronously and asynchronously. While in distance learning, Special Education services, English Language Learner support, and intervention services will continue to be provided. Virtual presentations will be available for your review and will provide you with specific information regarding your child’s classroom at our virtual Back to School Night. More information to come.

Material Distribution Day 25
Monday, August 10th will be the day designated for you to pick up your child’s 2020/21 Classroom materials and textbooks. Unfortunately, it will be brief and I will ask that you please stay in your car. Our purpose for this day is to provide your child with the necessary materials and supplies they will need to be successful as we begin the year in the Distance Learning model. All textbooks will be checked out to your child and will be expected to return to school with your child when school resumes. We will also be providing you with a “At-Home Survival Kit” which may include Welcome Back letters from your child’s teacher, Back to School information, Student login information, schedules,
- etc. We will have a “Classroom Tool Kit” which will include items your child may need to be successful during instruction. Also, we will be
providing some supplies which may include crayons, expo markers, pencils, etc. to help your child get started. Please follow this procedure when you arrive during your designated times (see table below). 1) Enter campus through the car turnaround, similar to drop off and pick ups during the school year. We ask that you enter the car turnaround by going North on Amethyst Avenue. This will allow everyone to make a right turn into the lot and will eliminate left hand turns into the driveway. 2) Drive up to the first volunteer with a radio, give them your child’s last name, teacher, and grade level. 3) Proceed to the table labeled with your child’s teacher’s name. Your child’s teacher should be there to Meet and Greet your child (through the car window) so if possible, bring them along so they have the
- pportunity to see their teacher’s face and meet them!
4) Drive carefully and wave lots as you exit the lot! Please exit the lot and turn right going north on Amethyst Avenue. Again, this will ensure safety during this time. Thank you for your cooperation and adhering to the time slots above for your family. If you are unable to make it to campus during your allotted time, please email me at dbentley@alsd.org to make alternative arrangements. Please know if you cannot make the designated time you will need to make arrangements later in the week and your child may not have the necessary information to log in to class which will begin the next day, August 11th. Students will be required to log in on August 11th. We will not be able to accommodate requests for pick-ups prior to August 10th.
