Agricultural Scenario in Jharkhand

A Snapshot

  • Total geographical area is 79.71 ha, 47.67% area under cultivation, 29.20% under forest cover and Average land holding

– 1.58 ha

  • Average annual rainfall is 130 cm (almost double of India’s annual average)
  • Paddy, coarse grains, maize, wheat and pulses and oilseeds are the major crops
  • Mango, Banana, Guava, Papaya, Tomato, Chili & other spices are in abundance, state is also rich in minor forest produce
  • 13% growth rate of Agriculture & allied sector over the years

Sustained efforts of the Govt of Jharkhand has yielded encouraging results with

  • Milk production: Increased by 17% between 2014-17 ; current production being – 18 Lakh MT
  • Egg production: Increased by 8% between FY15-17 ; current production being – 48 Cr.
