BROADBAND - What Your Parish Council Is Doing for You

  • 1. Contacted BT – We’ve contacted BT and have identified the

process that we need to go through, in order to obtain faster ‘Fibre Internet’ in our area

  • 2. Promoted and gathered interest (where we are now) – We

require households to register their interest in Fibre, so that we can understand which roadside cabinets will need to be updated (Thankyou residents)

  • 3. Obtain Quote (Next Step) – Obtain a quote to upgrade to

Fibre

  • 4. Go or No Go – Determine whether the quote given is

realistic, and then seek funding for its implementation

GET FASTER INTERNET SPEED

How it Works - Don’t Miss Out

  • There are two main methods by which fibre broadband can be

implemented, Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC).

  • There are many roadside cabinets and over 800 residential premises

(homes) in Wanborough.

  • Wanborough Parish Council require a quote from BT for the upgrade of

each roadside cabinet and premises.

  • Households and businesses, who do not register their interest, could

find themselves missing out on this opportunity for faster internet.

  • Average fixed-line download speeds rose by 28% over the year to 46.2

megabits per second, while uploads gained by 44% to 6.2 Mbps.

  • The typical household now consumed 190 gigabytes of data a month, in

large part due to the use of Netflix and other streamed TV services. Rural consumers still lag behind

  • Urban areas, 59% of connections delivered average speeds topping 30

Mbps over the 20:00-22:00 peak-time period - meeting the watchdog's definition of "superfast" - while 17% were under 10 Mbps.

  • Rural areas, only 23% of connections surpassed 30 Mbps over the same

hours, while 53% were under 10 Mbps.
