GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
- 4 credits of English (I, II, III, IV)- AP Lang counts for English III, AP Lit counts for English IV
- 4 credits of Math (I, II, III, + a higher math past level III) *
- 4 credits of Social Studies (World History, Civics/Economics, American History I and II) **
- 1 credit of Health/PE
- 3 credits of Science (Earth/Environ., Biology,a PHYSICAL SCIENCE (physical, chem, physics)
- 2 credits of electives- Must be from either Arts, CTE, World Language ***
- 8 credits of any other course/elective
- TOTAL: 26 CREDITS- MINIMUM that is needed for graduation
* Students unable to achieve a higher level of Math past Math III will be considered for a Math Substitution Process. Ask your counselor for more information if you think this might be you. ** AP US History can replace the American History I and II requirement, however a SOCIAL STUDIES ELECTIVE must be added to the students curriculum before graduation *** Students applying directly to a 4 year college or university MUST have taken a minimum of 2 levels of a World Language before graduating.

SENIOR YEAR CALENDAR
FALL
- Review High School Transcript for Accuracy
- Apply to college(s) of your choice
- Complete a Personal Information Sheet and/or résumé, then SHARE with your counselor
- Request Transcripts to be sent to the college(s) you are applying to. Must use CFNC for IN State
and ScribOrder for OUT of State
- Must fill out the Residency Determination Form
- Complete the FAFSA (the earlier you have this filled out- the more chance you have for
receiving financial aid) Deadline is March 1st
- Fill out the CSS Profile- only if required from college(s) you apply to
- Continue to look for scholarships and APPLY for them!
- Meet ALL admissions deadlines, especially critical for early admissions (Oct 15th for some NC
schools, Nov 1st for many others) KNOW YOUR DEADLINES
SENIOR YEAR CALENDAR
END OF 1ST SEMESTER
- Request Mid-year transcripts as needed per school
- Keep your Grades up!
- Inform colleges if 2nd semester classes have changed since sending out initial transcript.
- Prepare for applications due in January- ensure that all recommendations are complete
- Remember to have your scores sent from Test Organizations (CollegeBoard/ACT) to colleges
- Verify that colleges have received your application and that nothing is missing!
SENIOR YEAR CALENDAR
SPRING
- Counselors will review midterm grades with at risk Seniors
- Go on final college visits to accepted schools to help solidify your college decision.
- Make final college decision by May 1st deadline
- Take AP/SAT Subject Tests, as needed
- Request Final Transcript for out of State Colleges (CFNC automatically sends final
transcripts to in-state schools)
- Complete NCAA requirements (athletes)
- KEEP YOUR GRADES UP!!!!!
Scholarships
- Always research scholarship opportunities from the colleges you plan to submit
an application.
- Make use of online scholarship search engines like Fastweb, Cappex, Scholar
Snapp, CollegeNet, Scholarships.com, Niche, Scholarship Monkey, Moolahspot, Unigo, Zinch, Peterson’s, Collegeboard, CFNC, and many
- thers.
- Student Services website- for local scholarship opportunities.
- Remember the name of the game is to apply for as much as you can for as long as
you can. No scholarship can be attained without YOU submitting an application or following application procedures.
NC Residency Determination Service
- What is Residency?
- RDS policies
- All North Carolina Students must complete this form for NC Colleges and Universities
- students must provide a unique identification number such as a social security number, taxpayer
identification number, alien registration number, or US Citizenship and Immigration Service number.
- Students may also be required to submit documentation immediately following their initial
consideration request.
- 3 Ways to access the RDS to request an initial consideration
- Directly from the homepage of the RDS website
- From the students CFNC account using the CFNC applications hub
- Directly from their admissions application through links provided by the campus the student is
applying to.
Financial Aid- FAFSA
- ALL Financial Aid starts with the submission of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
Aid). fafsa.ed.gov
- Applications open October 1, 2018. First come first serve
- You will use the most current year’s 1040 income tax information (2017)
- Will receive confirmation that your FAFSA has been processed.
- Confirmation tells you your eligibility for grants, loans, etc
- Award letter arrives in the Spring
Financial Aid- FAFSA
- Bonnie Sykes is the Financial Aid Representative for AFHS. She can help you and
your family with FAFSA questions. She is here on Mondays from 8-11.
- Appointments can be made through the Student Services Office.

NCAA Eligibility Center
- You must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if you have plans to play Division I or Division
II college athletics.
- First step….register at eligibilitycenter.org.
- Once registered AFHS will send your six semester and final transcript to the NCAA
- YOU must send your SAT/ACT scores to NCAA…. (Code 9999)
- Students must maintain amateur certification.
- NCAA Eligibility is based on a “Core” GPA (16 core courses) and a corresponding SAT/ACT
score on a sliding scale.
Graduation
- MANDATORY Graduation Rehearsal: Friday, June 7th 1 pm
- Graduation Ceremony: Saturday, June 15th at 12pm
*Must arrive 1 hour before Ceremony
