History

In December of 2015, Parks staff noticed the automated fill valve for the interactive display fountains was constantly running but the water level in the receiving basin remained extremely low. In response:

  • Staff began to troubleshoot and identify potential problems associated with the loss
  • f water.
  • Staff brought in the fountain maintenance contractor and the original fountain

installer to help troubleshoot the issues.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

OPTION 1 REMOVE THE FOUNTAIN.

  • Replace fountain basin with steps.
  • Improve function of plaza during

events.

  • Remove fountain heads and lights and

re‐pave plaza.

  • Relocate limestone blocks to not

interfere with pedestrian paths.

OPTION 2 REPAIR AND MODERNIZE THE FOUNTAIN TO SIMILAR CONDITIONS.

  • Repair damaged fountain lines.
  • Install fountain sprays with integrated color

RGB LED lights.

  • Relocate limestone block to not interfere

with pedestrian paths.

  • Re‐pave plaza in the fountain area with

colored acid etched concrete to match paver color.

  • Zone sprays so that a portion of the

fountain can be deactivated during events.

OPTION 3 CROWD CONTROLLED FOUNTAIN

  • Replace fountain with an interactive Water

Gush technology fountain that has smartphone crowd control features.

  • Install fountain sprays with integrated color

changing LED lights that have smartphone crowd control features.

  • Re‐pave plaza in the fountain area with

colored acid etched concrete to match paver color.

  • Relocate sprays so fountain will not conflict

with events.
