  • Friends of AE is open to any organisation, at no cost, that:-

– wants to help AE become a success (or not be a disaster!) – is comfortable working collaboratively – has a pragmatic, action-orientated approach

  • This includes employers that have already staged

What pre staging experience do you have that can be shared? – What pre-staging experience do you have that can be shared? – What post-staging problems have you encountered?

b b i i d f About being a Friend of AE

  • We work to the principle of Enlightened Self Interest

– A philosophy in ethics which states that persons who act to further the interests of others (or the interests of the group or groups to which they belong), ultimately serve their own self interest

  • We want Friends of AE to:‐

– It has often been simply expressed by the belief that an individual, group, or even a commercial entity will "do well by doing good"

We want Friends of AE to:

– Consider the “bigger picture” as well as their own perspective – Share knowledge, experience and best practice – Operate in a pragmatic, action‐orientated way – Work together to tackle “capacity crunch” issues – Lobby for positive improvements, if necessary

  • bby o pos t e

p o e e ts, ecessa y – Be practical not parochial

Current Membership

  • 775+ members
  • Not a bad start
  • But it’s just a “drop in the ocean” compared to our potential
  • 99% of our “target market” doesn’t even know we exist!
  • For Friends of AE to be truly impactful it should grow to 10,000+

P tl th j it f b “i d t ”

  • Presently the majority of members are “industry”
  • In the future the vast majority of members will be employers

Suggested actions

  • Friends of AE is a great resource for anybody involved in AE, so:‐

– If not yet a member why not join? (no cost or commitment) – If there is Region local to you, find out about meetings – If there isn’t a local Region, would you like there to be one? – If you have contacts, would they want to know about FoAE too?

About PAPDIS ‐ the background

  • November 2013: The Pensions Regulator + The Department of

Work & Pensions held a meeting on “Barriers to AE Success”

  • It was concluded that:‐

1 AE ld h b t ti l ti l i t th k t h l 1. AE would have a substantial operational impact on the market as a whole 2. The success of AE was sensitive to the market’s ability to safely, efficiently and routinely transfer vast quantities of data from payroll to pensions 3. Having a free and open data standard that everybody could use, if they wanted to, was a pre‐requisite for an efficient, low‐cost AE market

  • Problem: there wasn’t a free and open data standard for AE!
  • “Necessity is the Mother of invention”
  • So Pensions BIB set to work on creating one

Collaboration is king!

  • The mission was to create a free and open data standard for AE

that people could use, if they wanted to

  • However, it would be extremely difficult to find consensus as all

parties wanted different things parties wanted different things

  • For there to be any real progress and any chance of agreement

there needed to be an approach that was highly pp g y

– Collaborative – Collegiate Cooperative – Cooperative

  • The good news is that all parties were happy to work that way!
  • As a result, a great deal of progress has already been made…

PAPDIS has already been launched!

  • The Pensions And Payroll Data Interface Standard (PAPDIS) was

launched:

– At 3 minutes past 3 – On the afternoon of Thursday 9th October – On the afternoon of Thursday 9 October – At the CIPP’s Capacity Crunch Conference at Celtic Manor – With Richard Graham MP, Chair, The All Party Parliamentary Pensions Group

  • It is a free and open data standard for AE that anybody can use, if

they want to
