A successful strategy requires the:

a national and at a regional level; and

  • Adoption of the Environmental Objectives of the Water Framework

Directive to ensure the protection of all water dependent receptors.

The Water Strategy should:

I.Introduce water supply augmentation and water demand management measures to ensure that demand for water is met whilst ensuring the necessary protection to threatened natural water resources; II.Sustain the capability of supplying good quality water to the population and the various economic activities; III.Ensure through improved efficiency (in water use and utility

  • peration) that the cost of water supply is such as to ensure an

improved economic development of the region; and IV.Improve the appreciation of the importance of water through regular educational campaigns.

However in particular it should:

I.Rediscover our rich water management heritage and seeks the adoption of these measures; II.Increase the current understanding of the status of water resources; and III.Disseminate regional experiences and sharing of knowledge
