Action Items
"Provide assessment of impacts of NJNG pipeline
project on Environmental Restoration Program"
Mr. Tamn requested a summary of the amounts of
vitamins, supplements, and microbes that were dispersed into the Dix MAG-1 Area under the CB&I contract

Action Items
NJNG pipeline: Assessment of ERP impacts
A portion of the proposed pipeline layout traverses
a delineated CERCLA site at Lakehurst
- Areas I and J groundwater
The pipeline would not impact the ERP site
- Pipeline will be placed at or above the water table
- Groundwater contamination in the location of the pipeline
is located in deep wells 40 to 70 feet below the ground surface
- Therefore, pipeline would not penetrate the groundwater
contaminant plume
- Pipeline does not conflict with the approved Record of
Decision for Areas I and J groundwater

JB MDL MMRP
The MMRP was established in 2002 and follows
the CERCLA process. The program was implemented to address unexploded ordnance, discarded military munitions and munitions components on current and former military installations.
- At McGuire and Lakehurst, the MMRP sites are
managed as NPL sites
- At Dix, the MMRP sites are managed as non-
NPL

Determine the type, approximate density and distribution of MEC/MC
- DGM transect surveys spaced 150 ft apart and digitally mapped
- Follow-Up Focused Geophysical Surveys – DGM grid surveys (50 ft x 50 ft
anticipated) to evaluate the DGM transect results
- Placed in high, medium, and low anomaly density areas
- Three grids in each density type
- Size and number based on DGM transect results
- Human Receptor Area Surveys – Full coverage DGM surveys around high use
areas where humans may come into contact with MEC
- Accessible and unpaved portions of the military residential property encircling the 8
housing units at Colonial Plaza totaling 1.59 acres
- Infield and outfield of the lighted ball field totaling 0.78 acres
- Intrusive Investigations
- Targets selected from DGM dataset
- Mag and dig surveys in areas inaccessible to DGM (5-ft width)
- MC sampling will be performed if evidence of MEC is observed

XRF Sampling for Lead
- Type 1: Soils along and outside of the boundaries of known lead-impacted soil
established during the 2012 Final CSE (investigated to delineate vertically and horizontally for lead).
- Type 2: Soils within the boundaries of known lead-impacted soil established during the
2012 Final CSE report, where lead was encountered above 90 mg/kg from 0 to 6 inches below ground surface (bgs) but no sample was collected from 6 to 12 inches bgs (investigated to delineate vertically for lead)
- Type 3: Soils within the boundaries of known lead-impacted soil established during the
2012 Final CSE report, where lead was encountered above 90 mg/kg from 0 to 12 inches bgs, but no sample was collected from 12 to 18 inches bgs (investigated to delineate vertically for lead).
Lead Analysis
- 10% will be sent of XRF to a fixed-base laboratory for correlation analysis
- PAH samples will be collected from the areas where clay pigeon debris is observed
- Additional samples collected in order to vertically and horizontally delineate area of
contamination

mapping (DGM) surveys around high use areas where humans may come into contact with MEC
- No work to be performed within hazardous fragmentation distance (HFD;
225 ft) of taxiways, runways or air traffic control tower
- Intrusive Investigations – Investigation of selected anomalies
- Hand digging or mechanically assisted (only hand dig within 1 ft. of
anomaly)
- MC sampling will be performed (soil and sediment from drainage
ditch) if evidence of MEC is observed.
- Biased samples 0-2 inches below identified MEC
- Additional samples from areas where MD is identified as warranted

Lakehurst MALRE Site Current Effort
Perform geophysical survey across the MRS to locate anomalies
representing suspect anchor system locations where C4 may have been detonated
- Full coverage magnetometry survey to detect subsurface metallic
- bjects like a rod or hook
- Full coverage ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey to determine if
the anomaly is an anchor system location
- GPR will identify concrete masses below ground surface
- GPR surveys will be performed to identify detonation locations that were
refilled with material or different soil compositions
- If an anomalous area is identified during the GPR survey, a minimum of
three perpendicular profiles will be collected to evaluate and delineate the potential anchor system location three dimensionally
- If anchors are identified, borings will be placed around them and
sampled at depth horizons of 0-1, 4-6, 6-8, and 8-10 ft bgs
