  5. PHASE II: 3R – HN PROJECT

  6. 3R definition 3R stands for  Reduce  Reuse  Recycle

  7. Why should we implement 3R • Prevent environment from degradation • Save natural resources • Save waste collection and treatment cost • Reduce land for dump.

  8. 3R – HN PROJECT 3R initiative implementation in Hanoi for sustainable social development

  9.  Investor Hanoi’s People Committee  Implementation body URENCO  Other stakeholders :  Departments under Hanoi city District’s People Committee   Mass-organizations  Companies associated to environmental sanitation in Hanoi Consultant company: YACHIYO ENGINEERING Co, LTD 

  10.  Place for implementation: 4 center districts of Hanoi city  Objective To establish 3R system (Reduce, reuse, and recycle) base on source separation, encouraging separation at household in Hanoi city.  Resources Resources for technique granted by Japanese Government and Hanoi’s contribution

  11. Activities • Separating waste in 4 wards: Phan Chu Trinh, Nguyen Du, Thanh Cong, and Lang Ha in 4 center districts of Hanoi. • Improving Cau Dien compost factory, expanding market for product. • Educating pupil at primary schools in wards. • Propagandizing on environment protection and knowledge on source separation, etc. • Organizing workshops, meetings, exhibitions to popularize for the project. • Building strategic documents and master plan to improve urban solid waste collection with source separation programs, expanding 3R model.

  12. PHASE III: INTRODUCTION ON ACTIVITIES OF SOURCE SEPARATION IN HANOI

  13. GUIDELINE FOR SOURCE SEPARATION  Organic waste : vegetable, fruit, root, flower, unused food, etc  Non-organic waste : slag, silent, glazed terra-cotta, porcelain, animal bone, shell, etc.  Recycle waste : metal, paper, cover, plastic, bottle, etc.

  14. HOUSEHOLD DUSTBIN  Organic waste: green with filter  Non-organic waste: orange (simple type)

  16. TIME AND PLACE FOR WASTE COLLECTION ORGANIC NON-ORGANIC SUBJECT WASTE WASTE 18.00 - 20.30 18.00 - 20.30 Daily Daily Green Orange Assemble stations Assemble stations

  17. TRANSFER STATION • There are two kind of dustbin at each station • Two separated color dustbin (green and orange) • Dustbins only placed at station at regulated time Advantage of waste collection by dustbin at transfer station: Time for waste collection lasts longer, up to 2,5 hours. This is easier for people • Waste thrown into dustbin sanitary. Assure urban landscape

  18. TRANSFER STATION

  19. TRANSPORT SYSTEM There are two separated trucks for tow kind of waste and transported to Nam Son dump site and Cau Dien compost station .

  20. TREATMENT SYSTEM Non-organic waste transported, buried at Nam Son landfill – Soc Son

  21. TREATMENT SYSTEM Separated organic waste transported to Cau Dien compost factory to produce compost
