Project Overview

395 Express Lanes Project Update

  • Project involves:

– Expansion and conversion of two High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to three Express Lanes – Addition of a fourth regular Southbound lane on 395 between Duke Street and Edsall Road – Improvements in traffic flow at the Eads Street Interchange and carpool access at the Pentagon – Installation and modification of sound walls – Rehabilitation of bridges over 395

  • Extends 8 miles between Edsall Road and the 14th

Street Bridge

  • Portions of project in Arlington County, City of

Alexandria, and Fairfax County

  • Some project elements will be located on the

Pentagon Reservation

  • Project will generate revenue for transit projects such

as improved bus services

Anticipated Construction Impacts

395 Express Lanes Project Update

Noise – The project team follows the Virginia Department of Transportation’s policies to reduce the impact of construction noise on the surrounding community. Vegetation Loss – Vegetation is removed as required to build the wall. This is limited as much as possible. Traffic Impacts – Temporary lane, ramp, and road closures may be needed to access certain sound wall sections. During any necessary ramp/road closures a detour will be provided.
