The CPD Journey – from NQSW to practice supervisor ▪ Post-qualifying standards for social work practice supervisors in adult social care ▪ National moderation as a means for improving standards What we are going to cover today:
ASYE moderation process
▪ supporting the aim of raising standards in accordance with the KSS ▪ building on employer’s existing strengths for delivering the ASYE ▪ minimising the burden of bureaucracy on employers ▪ providing clarity and transparency.
The original design principles
Internal to external moderation – what is working Internal to external moderation - What seems not be working as well
Strong links between internal/external panels ASYE not fully on the national PSW agenda Commitment between agencies Lack of consistency around how the paperwork needs to be completed Using external network for support Portfolios not always clear – the external moderation partnership should be able to moderate the portfolio properly Links with HEIs and PVI organisations Feedback loop does not seem to be supported by senior management Feel well established and value external moderation Consistency on the grading of reports has been an issue Sharing knowledge – problem solving and good practice Need details of the internal panel’s decision-making process, especially if the portfolio has needed to be referred back to an assessor
External to national moderation – what is working well External to national moderation - What does not seem to be working as well
External moderation summary reports Action taken in response to NMP key messages is not recorded (no specific box on template)
National to internal moderation – what is working well National to internal moderation - What seems not to be working as well Employers on the whole seem to value feedback form the NMP (anecdotal) Lack of understanding of the NMP role in evidence in some places Lever to organisation to address areas for development It seems that internal panels are not implementing what is asked by NMP in some cases Reminds organisations of ‘national’ requirements The presentation of key messages need to be more impactful
National moderation panel
▪ how the individual feedback is received, and acted upon ▪ the extent to which the key messages are being incorporated into practice improvement activity. Questions considered by the panel about impact :
National moderation ASYE
- To what extent does the national moderation panel – key
messages and individual feedback (where received) impact on your practice improvement activity?
- What needs to happen to maximise the impact of national
moderation in your organisation?
