CHALLENGES

  • Virtual learning is not easier than traditional classroom learning.
  • Self-motivation, discipline, and a strong support system at

home are a must.

  • A successful experience in distance learning requires a basic

background with technology.

  • It is strongly recommended that students have ready access

to a computer or laptop with high-speed Internet access, such as DSL or cable broadband. Virtual learning will require students to download and access course materials.

  • Virtual learning success depends on preparation, motivation,

dedication, planning and a support system.

TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements:

  • Computer
  • Internet Access
  • Each school location will have access available located outside of the school

building and school-issued devices will automatically connect.

  • Online courses use the web to deliver instruction.
  • Additional equipment that may be needed

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A 504, IEP, IAP OR IS SERVED GIFTED?

  • Pearson Connexus is designed to provide services where feasible in an online

setting.

  • For students with IEPs, a Chattooga County Schools special education teacher

will monitor your progress through virtual learning, while your virtual teacher will provide the accommodations.*

  • For students with IAPs your home school ELL teacher will monitor your virtual

learning progress, and your virtual teacher will provide the accommodations.*

  • For students with 504s, your virtual teacher will provide accommodations, while

your home school monitors your progress.* *IEPs, IAPs, and 504s may need to be amended for virtual learning.

ENROLLMENT & COST

  • Families will have to enroll each child online with the
  • nline learning platform based on the grade band for

their child(ren). Dates will be announced for you attend your child’s local school to assist with the enrollment process.

  • The Chattooga County School system will pay for core

courses.

  • K-2 English Language Arts/Reading and Math
  • 3-8 English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social

Studies

  • 9-12 Courses required to meet graduation requirements

COMMITMENT

  • Families will be asked to commit to one semester of virtual learning.
  • Open enrollment will be between July 23rd-29th. With an extended window

from July 30th- September 1st on a case-by-case basis.

  • A virtual learning “contract of commitment” will be required when you enroll

your student.

YOU WILL REMAIN A PART OF THE CHATTOOGA COUNTY SCHOOL FAMILY

  • Your child will receive instruction online with a Pearson Connexus, GA certified instructor. All

learning and support with be through the online learning platform.

  • Learning virtually does not limit your ability to play sports with the school system. All GHSA

rules will be followed.

  • Students will be invited to attend school organizations/clubs, school sponsored events and

programs.

  • Grades will be reported to the Chattooga County School system to be recorded. Transcripts

will be updated with reported grades.

  • Attendance will be recorded with the virtual school and becomes a part of the student’s

school records. * However, if a student decides to return to face-to-face instruction at the end of the semester, all attendance and grades will be transferred from the virtual school.

“Readiness Questionnaire” that has been provided to you in the FAQ

  • document. The results will provide you with some helpful suggestions on how

to best prepare yourself for a successful virtual learning experience.

An independent environment with self-taught learning? Student-centered, where you are on your own, but help is available? Teacher-directed, where all material is explained in detail?
