Zero Waste

 Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the

redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused.

 Goal: No trash is sent to landfills and incinerators  The process recommended is one similar to the

way that resources are reused in nature = biomimicry

 Industry standard: 90%+ diversion rate

Benefits of Zero Waste

  • Economic gain. Diverting waste into more economical routes reduces

disposal costs, increases recycling rebates, decrease inefficiencies in waste creation, and improves material flow.

Benefits of Zero Waste

  • Reduced environmental impact: Diverting waste decreases the

demand for raw resources and energy from the environment, reduces greenhouse gas emissions from the decomposition of biodegradable

  • rganics in landfills, requires less land to build landfills or waste

incinerators, and returns nutrients back to the soil.

Benefits of Zero Waste

  • Social rewards. Diverting waste creates greater opportunities for

jobs than sending waste to landfill, educates the general public on the issue of waste, and allows for reusable items to be given to charities to benefit those in need.

Benefits of Zero Waste

  • Improved reputation. Diverting waste lets customers know your
  • rganization is committed to behaving responsibly and in a way that is

not detrimental to the planet.
