Give ¡them ¡the ¡eye! ¡ • Eye ¡contact ¡is ¡an ¡important ¡way ¡to ¡engage ¡ your ¡audience. ¡Scan ¡the ¡room ¡for ¡friendly ¡ faces ¡when ¡talking, ¡looking ¡people ¡in ¡the ¡eye. ¡ Listeners ¡can ¡some*mes ¡look ¡angry, ¡but ¡this ¡is ¡ because ¡they ¡are ¡concentra*ng ¡on ¡the ¡ fascina*ng ¡ideas ¡you ¡are ¡sharing ¡with ¡them. ¡
Say ¡cheese! ¡ • Smiling ¡and ¡laughter ¡will ¡help ¡everyone ¡relax ¡ and ¡convey ¡an ¡impression ¡of ¡confidence! ¡

¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡ Nerves? ¡
It’s ¡only ¡natural! ¡ • To ¡be ¡a ¡bit ¡nervous ¡is ¡natural ¡and ¡actually ¡a ¡ good ¡thing. ¡Nerves ¡keep ¡you ¡alert. ¡ ¡
Don’t ¡worry, ¡be ¡nervous! ¡ • Don’t ¡get ¡hung ¡up ¡about ¡being ¡nervous. ¡It’s ¡a ¡ normal ¡human ¡reac*on. ¡Don’t ¡make ¡yourself ¡ more ¡nervous ¡because ¡you’re ¡nervous! ¡
Go ¡for ¡a ¡walk ¡(but ¡remember ¡to ¡come ¡ back!) ¡ • Walk ¡off ¡your ¡excessive ¡nervousness. ¡If ¡ possible, ¡walk ¡outside ¡and ¡get ¡some ¡fresh ¡air ¡ at ¡the ¡same ¡*me. ¡A ¡walk ¡down ¡the ¡corridor ¡is ¡ be>er ¡than ¡no ¡walk. ¡
Wiggle ¡a ¡liSle! ¡ • Don’t ¡let ¡your ¡legs ¡go ¡to ¡sleep. ¡Keep ¡the ¡blood ¡ supply ¡moving. ¡Keep ¡both ¡feet ¡on ¡the ¡floor ¡ and ¡lean ¡forward. ¡Wiggle ¡your ¡toes. ¡If ¡you ¡can ¡ stand ¡up ¡without ¡disturbing ¡anybody, ¡do ¡so. ¡
Work ¡it! ¡ • Work ¡your ¡wrists, ¡arms ¡and ¡shoulders ¡to ¡get ¡ the ¡tension ¡out ¡of ¡them. ¡Gentle ¡movements, ¡ not ¡a ¡major ¡workout, ¡will ¡remove ¡that ¡ tension. ¡ ¡
And ¡work ¡it ¡some ¡more! ¡ • Work ¡your ¡jaw. ¡Gentle ¡side-‑to-‑side ¡or ¡circular ¡ mo*on ¡will ¡help ¡to ¡loosen ¡it. ¡ ¡
Mantra! ¡ • Repeat ¡posi*ve ¡affirma*ons ¡quietly ¡to ¡ yourself. ¡“I ¡am ¡a ¡good ¡presenter.” ¡It ¡may ¡seem ¡ corny ¡but ¡it ¡works. ¡ ¡
Are ¡you ¡breathing?! ¡ • Above ¡all, ¡breathe ¡deeply. ¡Make ¡sure ¡your ¡ stomach ¡is ¡going ¡out ¡when ¡you ¡breathe ¡in. ¡
You ¡are ¡the ¡expert ¡in ¡the ¡room! ¡ • Remember, ¡you ¡know ¡more ¡about ¡your ¡ presenta*on ¡than ¡anyone ¡else ¡in ¡the ¡room, ¡ because ¡you ¡wrote ¡it! ¡
It’s ¡okay ¡to ¡be ¡nervous ¡ • Nerves ¡are ¡not ¡a ¡disaster. ¡The ¡audience ¡ expects ¡you ¡to ¡be ¡nervous. ¡
