Winoa (formerly Wheelabrator Allevard) was created in France, in 1961, to introduce in Europe the steel abrasives, a new revolutionary technology for blasting and descaling for foundry and forging. 50 years later, Winoa becomes world leader through its dynamism and active acquisition policy.

In June 2011, Wheelabrator Allevard celebrates its 50th anniversary and becomes Winoa In 1960s – 1970s, Winoa develops in France, Germany and Spain where it realizes 90% of its sales. 1980s – 1990s sees some important acquisitions (UK, Italy), production starts on the north American market (Canada, USA), the abrasives branch is reinforced in Europe (Czech Republic, Spain, Austria and Slovenia) and an industrial implementation begins in Brazil, South Africa and Asia (China, Korea, Thailand, Japan). Since 2000, the abrasives activity has continued its growth through some important investments in France, Italy and South Africa, the development of Test & Research Centers and the reinforcement of its position on emerging markets (China and Russia). Wheelabrator Allevard is born from a joint venture between an amercian company Wheelabrator
taken over by the investment company LBO France with the management participation.
