Wichita Rowing Association Lease Agreement in South Riverside Park (District VI)

Background

• City first leased a portion of South Riverside Park in 2012.
• Wichita Rowing Association (WRA) temporary storage facility
• 3,640 square feet
• WRA proposed the construction of a permanent structure to the

Park Board in 2016.

• Unanimously supported by Park Board and staff
• Requested City to sponsor grant applications to Land and Water Conservation

Fund

• Building design supported by District VI Advisory Board and Design Council
• Unsuccessful grant application, but WRA intends to raise the

remainder of the funds. 2

Contract Terms

• Term of 25 years with a 10 year renewal.
• WRA responsible for construction, maintenance, operation and use,

as well as costs incurred such as utilities.

• City will be advised of progress of planning and construction and

will be afforded the opportunity to provide input and assistance.

• Upon termination of agreement, any building, structure, parking lot
• r improvements made to the leased property will become property
• f the City.

Financial Considerations

• WRA will be responsible for all costs related to the construction,

maintenance and operation.

• WRA will pay to the City one dollar per year for each year during

the term.

• No costs will be incurred by the City.

Legal Considerations

• The Lease Agreement was written and approved as to form by the

Law Department. 7

Recommended Action

• It is recommended that the City Council approve the contract and

authorize the necessary signatures. 8
