  9. 6/17/2015 SECONDARY RESPONSE FOR AN INCIDENT Family Assistance Center • Family Assistance Center Activation – September 17, 2011 4:30am • 11:00am Operational • NTSB Site Inspection – “Incredible experience to land in Reno and be told there was a Family Assistance Center established, fully staffed, and in good condition. Looked like it had been done by people who had done a lot of FAC’s in the past.” What is a Family Assistance Center? • In the event of a mass casualty/mass fatality incident, a FAC serves as the single, authoritative source of information and services, providing a responsive and sensitive support system for those affected by the incident. • Support Medical Examiner objective of bringing resolution to families 9

  11. 6/17/2015 Disaster Call Center • Crisis Call Center – NV 211 Activation – September 16, 2011 8:07pm request – Calls began immediately! – First time activating as a disaster call center – 35 volunteers, 24 paid staff • 59% of call takers were volunteers • 1004 total hours of call taking Disaster Call Incoming Calls by County Washoe County Center (78.0%) National (17.2%) Clark County • Over 2000 call (1.3%) Carson City County received (1.1%) Lyon County (0.8%) – 1400 missing International persons reported (0.7%) – 600 called back Douglas County (0.4%) to report location Churchill County (0.2%) of loved ones White Pine County (0.2%) – 650 entered into Elko County (0.1%) UVIS Nye County (0.1%) Functional Roles Command Service Support Provide a supportive environment for Victims and Family Members as they deal with the stress and uncertainty of injury and death. 11
