  2. Imagine... It is the year 2070. The existing space economy is thriving. There are many facilities scattered across Cislunar space providing services to space companies. Colonies on the Moon and Mars have been running continuously for at least a decade. Lunar and asteroid ISRU produce enough surplus material to be commercialized. Humans are ready to begin deep space settlement. 01 Art by Robert McCalll

  3. In this context, there is a growing demand for a large space facility where multiple space companies can conduct their activities and ofger their services, establish their market, and settle their workers. This thesis presents one concept for such a facility : New Venice Multi-Industry Space Outpost New Venice is a physical address where companies can explore the space environment . They will be able to lease space on-board without the cost and burden of constructing and launching their own space facilities. The community village ofgers comfortable amenities for the employers and visitors, and is a popular tourist destination. 02 Art by Robert McCalll

Problem statement Problem 1 Problem 2 Problem 3 How to incorporate micro-gravity in comfortable, How to cater to the great diversity of functions and How to change the status quo of space station assembly stimulating living environments, breaking free from uses, each with its unique requirements, restrictions based on chamber-to-chamber/corridor environments? the usual concepts of either adapting Earth to space or and peculiarities without interfering with each other? Humans to machines? 04

  6. Design Brief Main Assumptions • Year 2070 ; • Thriving cislunar economy; Concept • Advanced colonies on the Moon and Mars; • Functional separation; • Lunar and asteroid ISRU are producing surplus; • Simultaneous activities; • Space contractors build and outfjt structures in space; • Balance of private vs public; • Large infmatables are proven technology; • Mix of launched modules and in- • NASA’s SLS is the main large payload provider; space construction; • New technologies in material and medicine ofger • Commercially operational from suffjcient protection against cosmic radiation; start, no interruption for growth; • Future expansion capabilities; Project parameters: • Multiple circulation routes; • Population: 400 people; • Multiple escape possibilities. 87% working (economic or support activities) 13% visiting (tourists, training, students) • 3 year permanence limit; • Micro gravity environment; 05

  7. Location u n a r O r b L i t L4 Earth - Moon L5 m a g n s e ´ t h o t s r p a h E e r e G E O • Stable orbit; • Little to no attitude control and orbit correction boosts needed; • Little to no gravity gradient; • No atmospheric drag; L3 L1 L2 • No orbital debris; • Advantageous ΔV for travel between Earth/Moon/Cislunar; LEO • Convenient location for commercialization of lunar and asteroid HEO materials; MEO • Convenient location for way-station for deep space; Van Allen Radiation Belts • Simultaneous Earth and Moon gazing opportunities.
