5 STEPS FOR AN IMPACTFUL HILL MEETING

Part 1. Before The Meeting

Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your appointment to meet with your group

Review who will cover each position paper talking point and assign an opener (“hello”) and a closer (“thank you for your time”). Part 2. Introductions

  • Remind your legislator or staffer that you are constituents but share a short unique detail to underscore that

your group represents a broad cross section from the district.

5 STEPS FOR AN IMPACTFUL HILL MEETING

Part 3. Local Impact Provide local statistics that legislators otherwise would not have access to. Your District Profile sheet is a good guide. Congress is run by statistics.

How would Block Grants damage your district voters?

How would Breakfast Commodities help your district voters?

Part 4. Repeat and Listen

Clearly repeat your request. Listen to their response. Make sure to accurately record their name and contact information.

Part 5. After the Meeting

Compare impressions with your group. Identify any follow up requests such as additional information they may need. Complete your feedback form!
