SWM CHALLENGES & TECHNIQUES
- MD Stormwater Management Regulations required run-off
from all new impervious areas to be treated.
- The building footprint was minimized, by stacking three-
stories, which minimized roof area.
- The existing parking areas were expanded and shared
between the schools, to minimize paved areas.
- BCPS requested visible bioswales and an exposed pond, ILO
underground SWM, as an educational element.
- The bio-swales are relatively small and scattered around the
site, to maximize flexible placement.
- The adjacent stream served as a natural destination for the
treated run-off.
